Top tier is 40gb!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Comcast is like 250gb. This is bs. There's a petition going around here in Austin. They've already heald off a bit because of the backlash here.

Are these monthly caps?

40gig doesn't sound like alot of space in terms of raw storage, like in a harddrive, but in terms of downloaded/uploaded data thats quite a bit. I bet only a small minority of internet users even approach that amount of data transfer on a monthly basis.

That's 9 movies a month alone. Then some people watch alot of tv shows online. Some people play games nightly. It adds up. I can go over that and I'm single and live alone. What about a family of 4? 10gb a piece...that's nothing.

Alot of people won't come close to that but it's the tech savy people and families that's gonna be hit hard by it :(

TW just scrapped their capped service in New York.

If given an alternative, I would NEVER pay for capped service.

Just another example of a company bending the customer over for a couple of bucks.

This type of crap only works when you have no second option.

Time Warner Cable shelves broadband usage billing
Thu Apr 16, 2009 8:56pm BST
NEW YORK (Reuters) - Time Warner Cable Inc said on Thursday it would shelve plans to test a system that bills customers for the amount of broadband bandwidth they use instead of at a flat fee to access the Internet from home after an uproar from consumer groups and politicians.

"It is clear from the public response over the last two weeks that there is a great deal of misunderstanding about our plans," Time Warner Cable Chief Executive Glenn Britt said in a statement.

The company said it would alter plans to test consumption-based billing while continuing customer education about it. Time Warner Cable has been testing the billing system in Beaumont, Texas.

Most major Internet service providers in the United States use flat-fee billing.

Britt said the company would not go ahead with its plans for additional tests of the billing system until it has consulted more with customers and other parties.

Time Warner Cable said it was working to make measurement tools available "as quickly as possible" to help customers understand how much bandwidth they use.

Politicians including New York Senator Charles Schumer objected to Time Warner Cable's plans after the company said two weeks ago that it would expand its trial to four more cities.

"We look forward to continuing to work with Senator Schumer, our customers and all of the other interested parties as the process moves forward," Britt said.

Time Warner Cable's shares were up 2.9 percent at $29.64 in late trading on Thursday.

Oh screw you Mr Britt. It's pretty clear. You make $4 billion profit off internet alone last year. You don't need any extra money from us or to cap anyone. Spend some of that $4 billion profit to upgrade the system if it really needs it. And oh yeah, how about we just pay for the tv channels we watch....or try adding NFLN....no? Ok, then shut up. Man TW sucks.

It's not about bandwidth fellas it's about "content".

TW is just mad as hell because a lot of people use the internet for their shows ala HULU, youtube, surfthechannel, watchsimpsons.com and a thousand other free providers of content. TW is just "making sure" that they are somehow getting a piece of the action.

YOu can find the priced tiers online if you just search for them.

Here is how you can legally download as much as 40GB in less than a week.

#1 Xbox live, playstation network

Playing games eats up a lot of bandwidth, we pay for fast connection with unlimited bandwidth to enjoy this service, this might not be true if TW gets away with there bandwidths.

#2 Streaming video

From Porn to the Simpsons, southpark, futurama, I love lucy (yes people still watch this old stuff online) to lost....people stream video constantly from the internet on a daily basis, and even though you might not be seeing how much you spend (bandwidth) why not leave your computer on for a whole month and (all your computers) and check your network setting properties and see just how much you are receiving from your provider...you might get shocked.

#3 Paid content
Steam.com, Neftlix, gamefly etc etc etc

One game from Steam could be as big as 10GB(grand theft auto) or just 4gb (tomb raider) either way 40 GB could be easily reached in half a month and guess what, just like with the cellphones, every GB over is gonna cost you.

What can I do?

Call TWC and let them know how you feel, let them know your pissed and let them know that if this plan is implemented you will take your dollars elseswhere. Already there are companies like verizon and Fios that are hearing for the cries of the masses for them to come out to the markets where TW monopolizes them.

Email your CityManager, San Antonioans email her, its a she, and let her know you feel....She has the power to strike down new companies' policies in her/his city.

Email TW and let them knwo how you feel.

In San Antonio there will be protests believe me I'm already hearing about them.

Good luck everyone, dont let TW bully you, do all you can.
