ignoring the injury.. and talking strictly about TO's "no practice show" , I kind of have to agree with you.
It was just strange watching some of his antics at practice.. and to him I'm pretty sure he is just having some fun and entertaining himself, but it comes off in a bad way, IMO.
For example: Why does he have to be the last player to get to practice and the last player to leave practice every day, other than wanting his own stage? He seemed to walk around with other player in between pactice and to meetings, so it makes me think it really is a marketing or media ploy.
The media eats it up though and I truly could not believe how many camera's were on a guy that was riding a bike... maybe day one..fine..but every day? And then the guy does more interviews than any other player I've seen, after practice or wherever... It's like he waits for everyone else to leave and then craves all the attention that he gets because the media and the fans have no one else to look at or talk to. From a marketing perspective it's a great plan.. but it just bothers me a bit from the "team" perspective.
Oh one other thing that I'm sure he thought was fun and entertaining... The one day that he did sign autographs, that I was there, he would almost play with the crowd starting to go one way and then go back the other way just so he could watch the crowd try to scurry back and forth to get something signed. Every other player would just start one place and walk down casually and cordially signing for fans.
One other thing.. this guy has brought a whole new breed of fans with him.. whcih frightfully remind me of all the bandwagon fans of the 90's. I really could not get over the amount of #81 jerseys that I saw, when the guy hasn't even played a down yet..
Like I said... This guy is great for marketing.. but I wish he went about it in another way. He just reminds of the guy that tells everyone else that they are great and then after a while people start believing it.. meanwhile there's a whole team of people working just as hard who also should get recognition, but don't feel the need to tell everyone about it.
