This is the direct result of that. I am not trying nor have I ever tried to poof myself up, but I have said in the past, like MANY others have also, that if you think you can pass your way to a win every game, this is what you will get a good number of those times.
The running game is very important. Grinding it out on the ground is very important. If you think the result of running is only 100+ yards and that is it, then you still have much to learn.
* When a defensive line/LBs have to run side to side tackling a scrambling RB, they wear down.
* Def. Coordinators cannot concentrate solely on defending the pass (ah hem! like they did this game and tried to last - see result)
* holds back any def. pass rush keeping the QB from getting killed trying to pass all the time
* allows for play action passes which pulls LBs closer to the line
* keeps our defense off the field and all well rested
* etc....
A good game plan is a balanced one.
I thought the Cowboys, as in the past before last year, dropped the running game all too early and in effect helped Washington control the tempo of the game.
Felix had no part in the running attack, why not? Barber played very little, why? Where was Felix in the passing game? I respect Garrett and believe he is very good OC, but where is the creativity in THIS game? We have watched the last few games defenses tighten way up on Owens. Last week, we beat them up on the ground and made them pay for it. This week, we drop the running game, leave a good RB on the bench (or atleast did not gameplan him better in the passing game), and play our usual passing game just hoping Owens can get open. How about more screens? With all the weapons we have, there has to be gameplans available to counteract the doubleteaming of Owens. You know that is what every defense is going to do against us now.
Commanders played good ball today and beat the Cowboys on the field. Now what are the Cowboys going to take from it before there is still alot of football left to play.
