RUN OFFENSE B+

The running game wasn't there early, but it was there as the game went on with the offensive line wearing the Rams down. Julius Jones, Marion Barber and Tyson Thompson combined for 149 yards on 29 carries. Jones had the game's first TD with a 2-yard run in the second quarter.

PASS OFFENSE A

Tony Romo was sacked on the second series and was barely touched again. For the third time in four games, Romo had more than 300 yards passing and it may have been better if not for five drops. With Terrell Owens getting so much attention, Patrick Crayton had a career-high 184 yards.

RUN DEFENSE A

The front seven has been helped because the scores have been so out of whack that teams have had to throw, but even early in the game they stopped the Rams. It helped that all-everything Steven Jackson (groin) was missing, but they held rookie Brian Leonard to 58 yards on 16 carries.

PASS DEFENSE A

The unit did what good defenses do against banged up offenses. It got pressure and three sacks, including 1½ by Greg Ellis. It also got a pick. And one mix-up when Isaac Bruce picked up 24 yards on a third-and-23. The pass defense was impressive because it played largely without Anthony Henry (right ankle).

SPECIAL TEAMS C-

Last week they shut down Devin Hester. On Sunday, they could not control Dante Hall. Hall's 85-yard punt return for a TD was the first the Cowboys have allowed this century. The kickoff coverage was off as well with Hall averaging 30.2 yards per return.

COACHING A

This was an easy game to overlook, but after a slow start the players responded. Defensively, they attacked the Rams' banged-up offensive line. Offensively, they also attacked, especially with the running game stalled early. With 1-3 Buffalo next week, overconfidence will be an issue.

How about an A+ for effort and focus...

After suffering 12 (sometimes mysterious) penalties for 100yds last week against the Chicago Bears, the Cowboys tightened up and were only flagged twice for 10 yards.

How big an improvement was that? (Though I guess it helps when the zebras aren't making up penalties ey?)

Good point. Dallas went into the game as one of the most penalized teams in the league and the guys did a great job of cleaning that up with only 2 flags
