LOS ANGELES — Tom Cruise and J.J. Abrams have chosen to accept another impossible mission.

Cruise and Abrams have signed on to produce a fourth installment of the Mission: Impossible franchise for Paramount. Abrams directed Cruise’s last outing as covert operative Ethan Hunt in 2006’s Mission: Impossible III.

While they have set 2011 as a target release date, it’s still unknown if Cruise will star again or if Abrams will return to direct. According to studio spokeswoman Katie Martin Kelley, Cruise and Abrams are only attached as producers at this point.

It would mark a reunion for Cruise and Paramount after the studio cut the actor loose from a long-term development deal in 2006.

"Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to appear taller than your wife in public, and to quash those gay rumors. Good luck."

The real Mission Impossible is for Hollywood to stop making sequels to crappy movies.

I can't stomach too much Tom Cruise. And I agree that sequels usually suck.

But even I gotta' admit that every Mission Impossible move so far has been worth the price of admission. Mission Impossible is the only stuff that I give Cruise any props for. Great movies...............

The first one was pretty good. The second one was crap. The third I didn't bother.

I'd rather see a sequel to "Taken," with a bigger role for his CIA buddies this time.

Now THAT would be cool...

Even with all of the questions at the end, but it was great for mindless entertainment.

I honestly did not realize that they made a MI3.
MI:III was the best of the trilogy in my opinion. It's the movie where I first began to appreciate J.J. Abrams' work. There doesn't seem to be very many Abrams fans on this site. :(

I thought the two MI movies I saw kind of sucked.

However I liked The Last Samurai, to be fair though it was not because of cruise, I just like samurai movies.:D

I'm a huge fan of Abrams! Lost is my favorite show and, to me, his work on Star Trek was top notch.

I just really did not know that they made that third installment to MI (what year did it release???). I'll try and check it out.

Last Samurai was a pretty good flick. To me it falls in that category of a movie that is never mentioned as one of your favorites, but you always find yourself watching it when it's on TV.
