Tom Landry and Jimmy Johnson are the greatest coaches of all time. Not Belicheat!

I guess some fans appreciate the in your face disrespect to everyone.

I don’t find it very becoming from someone who doesn’t appreciate everything the sport has provided him. I have a feeling his father raised him at Navy with more respect and dignity than that.
How would you explain the two cheating scandals then? Maybe his father left out the cheating part?!

They aren’t keeping him out. Just snubbing him for 1st Ballot.
That’s what I mean. Keeping him out of this year. He will get in do sure. But it sends bad message one of the greatest coaches of all time and the most decorated couldn’t get in. The voters are terrible.

In wake of Belicheat missing first ballot this year, it reminded me of past greatness and real men that dominated this sport. Tom Landry and Jimmy Johnson were men’s men. True gladiators that ran their teams with the greatest coaching of all time. Belicheat isn’t the greatest to ever do it. I don’t even rank him top 5. Without Brady, he isn’t even top 20. For all those here who remember true coaches, this is what the modern cowboys are missing. We need a coach li
We all love Tom and jimmy. As a cowboy fan, I wouldn't trade either one for Belechek. But, Bill should get his due. When you unpack his era in NE, even considering his spying on the Jets, it was still objectively the most successful era of any coach in the history of the league. What most people who call him "belecheat" refuse to see is that stealing other teams signs in the NFL is something that has always been part of the game and every team did it. Bill just took it to the next level and probably pushed the envelope too far, but that's going to to happen in any competitive endeavor where the competition lines are blurred. Even if you take the drastic action of stripping him of the 3 super bowls he won before spy gate, that still leaves him with 5. If he is not a first ballot HOF coach, then the voting system is truly corrupt.

If I was that much of a homer then I would declare them #1 and #2, right?

No, I truly respect greatness from anybody in any NFL team. I'm a Cowboys fan, first and foremost, but I am also an NFL fan in general.

Realizing that individual speculative opinion does indeed play a part was the reason I didn't assign a specific rank to either.

All I'm saying is that, if you listed the top 5 HCs in NFL history, you must include the name Tom Landry.

As far as criteria.....well, when you consider that Landry invented half of what we still see in the NFL....that rather speaks for itself, although I could easily supply an exhausting list.

Writing the list would be the hard part, the content is easily obtainable
I’d definitely place Landry in an Elite category. I dont personally like ranking cause I feel it’s more of a subjective venture without naming the parameters .

History has illustrated that some of the greatest in NFL have been withheld or delayed induction in the HOF cause of personal conduct unbecoming to the integrity of the league.

I think it sends a message that Bills conduct was terrible enough to prevent him from 1st Ballot that he otherwise deserved. Much like some players have been snubbed.

It wasn't just Brady that won New England all those titles, those teams that won all those titles were loaded with real TEAM PLAYERS, and a HC that knew a little something about how to lead those players. Belichick should have been a 1st ballet HOFer, and those who played under him like BRADY are speaking out about the how his former HC got screwed.

Yet Jimmy admitted doing what Bill did but was not successful

I understand and agree.

In fact I think the debate on the parameters would be just as intense as the actual ranking.

I mean, what makes a HC great? Most would look at the record as solid evidence.

However, the time and circumstances under which they coached has to be taken into consideration in order to be fair.

For example, should winning a championship when the league had 8 teams be regarded as the same as a championship today in a league of 32 teams?

And what about the quality of the team at the time they became head coach?

Some coaches started out with an expansion team composed of very little talent, whereas other coaches "inherited" a contender when the previous HC decided to retire or move on.

Some coaches take over winning teams that fail to meet a higher standard. Others take over a team that couldn't win 4 games in back to back seasons.

Without looking at the circumstances for context, someone with limited historical knowledge about Cowboys would determine that their best coach in history was Barry Switzer.

what was Paul Brown without Otto Graham
Tom Landry without Staubach
Lombardi without Bart Starr
I could go on
Like how good was Jimmy Johnson without Troy Aikman
now are you getting why its a dumb post?
Bill Parcells won with Jeff Hostetler and Phil Simms, then made it back with Drew Bledsoe

Why are you cheering for players that are probably doing drugs?
Its a good question.

I think one answer is a word you already used. "Probably"

but its s a proven fact Belicheck cheated. And not only once.
