Both of these guys are interesting studies.

Whisenhunt has an Offensive backround, starting as a TE coach then eventually becoming an OC before getting the job in Az. Former player in the NFL but what I find interesting is that he was the OC for the Steelers prior to getting hired in Arizona. The Steelers kinda passed him over for the HC job.

Tomlin started as a DB coach and eventually landed a job as DC with Minnesota. He became a head coach in 2007 as well. He was the Steelers first choice as HC, which was kind of a head scratcher for many at the time. Recent history would seem to indicate that the Steelers made a good choice but it will be interesting to see what happens if he should lose to Whisenhunt and the Cards. I don't think they will but we will see what happens.

You know the Wizzenator is gonna be thinking that same thing in the back of his mind and will have his guys play with that much more intensity. I'm sure his players are also thinking, we gotta get this one for the gipper!!! Well it makes for good discussion anyways. Fitzgerald will be the factor in this game, even if they double him he still comes down with the ball. I'm not so sure the StEAlers win this...

Go Whizzenator!!!

the steelers started their coaching search on jan 5. whisenhunt landed the cards job jan 14. he was still a canidate at that point for the steelers job along with russ grimm, tomlin and rivera. tomlin wasn't hired til the 22nd. it's not like he was passed over, he left before a decision was made....

Assistant head coach Russ Grimm has emerged as the front-runner for the Pittsburgh Steelers' coaching job, a search that was narrowed to three finalists Monday after offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt left for Arizona.
The Steelers identified Grimm, a Pittsburgh assistant for six years, and defensive coordinators Mike Tomlin of the Minnesota Vikings and Ron Rivera of the Chicago Bears as the finalists. Georgia Tech coach Chan Gailey is no longer being considered.
Grimm and Whisenhunt were believed to be the Steelers' top choices to replace Bill Cowher since the search began Jan. 5, but Whisenhunt will be introduced Tuesday as the Cardinals' coach. He accepted the job Sunday, apparently without the Steelers making a counteroffer to keep him.

Most valuable coach on Steelers team-Dick LeBeau. Tomlin is a high paid cheerleader. I heard an interview with Tomlin on Nfl radio and they were asking him a lot of scheme and strategy questions. He sounded totally clueless. I give the coaching edge to the Wisenator.

whisenhunt probably knows more of the scheme by virtue of installing the offense in arizona whereas tomlin is a defensive coach who isn't touching the defense because he was a 4-3 coach and DL is a 3-4 mastermind. i'd still take tomlin in a heartbeat....dude is what i want in a coach. motivates, takes no BS, and is in control of exactly what he wants.

I agree, you never see him calling anything on the sideline.
