I feel like rushing Tony back for this dumpster fire of a season was a huge mistake, and I am not sure that we can count on Tony coming back to his old form.

You can never count on a 36-year-old QB to return to his old form, even if he was in top form the previous season. Older players are more injury-prone and eventually their play declines (and often, that decline happens fast). Depending on an older starter is always a gamble. That doesn't mean you don't do it, but it does mean you need to have a backup plan or be prepared to suffer the consequences when the gamble doesn't pay off.

I do have concerns about his health and play the more years go by. I believe the obvious correlation to a great year last year was having #29 run for a Cowboy record in yards and that in turn helped Romo stay within himself. I think that if we don't have that bell cow we will naturally turn to him throwing more and thus having more opportunities to get hurt or make a few poor plays. Either way, the team, if they have any chance with JG, needs to get back to that simple plan or I think we won't see the same Tony. Even if you take the Carolina game mistakes out with a "rushed back" excuse, he didn't look sharp in the first Giants game or right before the injury in Gm2

It's a broken collarbone. It doesn't affect his mobility, agility, throwing, reads, anything. The only thing that will affect him is age.

Tony will be 35 next season. Every season going forward is going to be a bit of a crapshoot.

Nobody in the front-office, the Cowboyszone, or the Galactic Empire can predict how healthy he will be next season OR what kinds of general decline you might see in his game due to age alone.

Let's all cross our fingers and hope for circa 2014 Tony Romo.

Just an hour or so ago, Romo said in his exit interview on DC.com that he's already working out at a high level and the bone
is basically healed. If the Cowboys would have made the playoffs, he would have been ready to give it a go. He plans on working
out harder than ever this offseason to get ready and he said he has really strengthened his back and core and feels they will
have some ways to protect his collar bone next year. He seems really focused on getting himself and his team ready for next years
season.

Really insightful post. I'm glad you supported your case with how you feel. I'm going to put alot of stock in this. Thank you for the first hand knowledge of your feelings.

The little "popcorn eating" graphic in the OP also leads me to believe he's just trolling for a response.

Absolutely no insight or valuable thought provided, whatsoever.

No quit in that man and I believe he'll be on a mission next season.

Tony turns 36 in April. Otherwise I agree, except that I'm hoping for a better backup plan.

It might have been a mistake, but this wasn't the type of injury where there's a great risk of continuing problems. If there's the risk of it being career-ending, then you don't play him.

However, even if Romo had not reinjured his shoulder, it appears that he's living on borrowed time primarily because his body is showing its NFL old age. He might go three or four years with hardly any issues or he not last another season, so Dallas has to prepare for the worst-case scenario.

Is anyone else concerned that Jerry had to come out and say Romo wont have the plate inserted? I mean, wouldn't that be better for him long term?

Damn there are some depressing posts in here lately.

I saw someone yesterday calling Byron Jones a bust, and they got multiple likes. What is going on? I get nobody likes losing but c'mon.

Tony is not a "quick read" type of QB, he never has been. He's more of a tactician at the LOS, move guys around, and waits for things to really open up, thus scrambling and buying time. Because of this style of play, he's taken a lot of crushing hits in his career, most were unnecessary. In his younger life, he could easily withstand these hits but now these hits, at his age with wear & tear, he's susceptible to injury much more frequently than previously. He's going to take a lot of hits again next season. So is he going to make it through? We don't know. A lot of 300lb men will land on him, and he will thus land on that clavicle a lot.

If I'm Jerry, I'm not banking on some scrubs to back him up, I'm looking at the future.

Think it was a parody of the Dez may not be the same thread.

If the Cowboys can get a running game/back, Romo will have a longer shelf life.
