Tony Pollard should play more

Pollard in motion freezes the linebackers and gets zeke a head start imo. And he can run routes as effectively as Cobb imo

I'd like to see if we could use him as a gadget player. RB/WR/Punt returner hybrid. Imagine have a multi-use player and not using it to your advantage. Only Dallas

Just get him on the field. Get creative. He creates space and changes how the defense plays us. He can play with zeke both are capable receivers

There are a few very obvious moves:

Jarwin and Witten swap snap counts
Zeke and Pollard 65/35 split
Lewis start over Awuzie with Brown on outside
Thompson start over Heath

Less obvious:

Try other options at slot WR

I like jet screens and wish we did more of it. Making the defense think about covering RBs going in two different directions puts them in a bind. Now add Dak to that mix. Pretty tough to key on Zeke at that point.

It's so frustrating, and weird, that we just so happened to pick up personnel for a multiple run threat offense with Olawale, Austin, Pollard, and even Cobb, and even have a great QB for it, but we don't actually *do* it. Olawale, Austin, and Pollard are all even significant threats deep, which is the other piece of complementing the run game - deep threats to back teams out of the box. We even added Devin Smith as another deep threat for the base.

But no. We get all the pieces for a multi run threat offense that can go deep on you, but we don't do it.

Pollard more in the slot. He's a more natural fit as a runner for the jet sweeps and WR screens than Austin.

We’ve had a few games in the past wherein we just lined up and smashed teams all day. Nothing fancy just our line dominating. I think that idea is so tantalizing that they are sticking with it but it’s not working. These defenders workout too

With Zeke and all the good receivers we have it’s limited Pollard’s opportunities. Pollard had one touch for -4 for last week. He has to take advantage of his opportunities and that may earn him more. Would be nice to find a way to get Pollard involved in the passing game but with Zeke and the receivers we have there’s not enough balls to go around. The only way he’s going to get more opportunities is to make a play.
some haters do not realize this..

also limited possessions with us losing TOP a lot of late because of our defense and situational football has contributed to backups not having more opportunity's.. but you are correct only so many balls to go around..

I am hoping out of desperation Pollard does get few more balls because they will need to empty the gun to make it to the playoffs now..

Nick Eatman was making some great points on one of the pods last week about how this coaching staff’s broke mentality toward utilizing personnel.

Basically, in a nut shell (paraphrasing), they draft a guy like Pollard and their paralyzed by lack of imagination of how to utilize him. They’re reluctant to pull Zeke off the field for Pollard like “we could run Pollard some screens (who’s blatantly faster/quicker than Zeke), but then we’d have to take Zeke off the field?”

Same goes for Jarwin and Witten.

With Witten it’s all about relative perspective, as in he’s playing relatively well for a 37-year old TE that’s missed a year of football.

Well fantastic.

Jarwin is clearly a more dynamic receiving threat than Witten. A lot is said about Witten’s supposed superior ability as a blocker.

Great.

Witten should be the primary blocking TE on the roster and Jarwin should be getting Witten’s targets in the passing game.

What do we get though? We run Witten out here like it’s 2010 all over again.

SMH.

The staff just lacks creativity. Zeke and Pollard should be in the game at the same time a lot more than they are. Teams key on Zeke and we could hurt them with Pollard in the game with Zeke.

Of course 21 is better than Pollard, but maybe if 21 would have a series or two off during the course of the game, maybe he has a little more in the tank when you call on him for the last handful of plays in a loss.

Off topic in this thread...but you see this quite a bit with this staff....theres a better player behind 4-5 starters. Safety, LG, TE, CB.

Pollard needs to be worked in more for several reasons but the stubbornness starts at the top in Dallas and infects the entire staff

Yeah its puzzling why they've used him so little especially in the Vikes game when Zeke wasn't affective.

Can't believe they can't get Zeke and Pollard on together...
Honestly I think I would steal a few things from the ravens playbook.

They’re afraid to disrespect dak by letting him run but he can absolutely handle about 5-10 designed runs a game. He would have a safety valve and not be exposed to damage. And it would open so many things up.

essentially every play could feature pollard in motion with a read by dak at the snap. It’s a safe offense with tons of forward momentum

The coaching staff is seemingly too lazy to even try to use two RBs during a given game. Funny how Minnesota had no problems smoothly mixing in Mattison with 9 touches last week with Cook the league’s leading rusher also killing us.

Zeke should play less because this season he is less and should be paid less. Just cut him, he's a liability. The coaches are going to keep calling his number thinking he is better than he is and he is just going to keep screwing us.

I think part of the reason you don't see pollard very much is he can't block very well. Zeke is an excellent blocker and you lose that with pollard on the field. With as bad as the O-line is playing you need the help that zeke can give.

Playing Pollard upon occasion with both himself and Ezekiel in the backfield should make the upcoming play less predictable!

It could possibly be a pass or run by Pollard or the same kind of scenario with respect to Zeke. Not sure why that hasn't happened yet!
