this is not a football thread, but watching all the NFL commercials and spots by players hocking every product imaginable, I began to wonder why a very popular, successful, articulate, funny character like Tony Romo has never been seen by me in a national commercial.

He's the franchise QB of America's team....clothing? Golf equipment? Fatheads? Security or safety equipment? Cars? Travel? Nothing.

There's no way Romo hasn't been offered commercials and endorsement deals as a handsome NFL QB whose face is widely recognized. I can only surmise that perhaps all the negative attention he has received for vacations and golf (should be focused on football nonsense) has caused him to take a stand against any non football attention and to keep it low key.

Surely there have been opportunities...thoughts?

i disagree its the negative attention.

tony actually doesnt like the big spot light and attention. he's a simple low-key guy. and as such, doubt he cares about endorsement dollars.

Non Cowboy fans despise him. There are few athletes who are more hated than Romo. There is another thread here that has Romo as the most hated QB in the league.

It's all completely unfair, but there you go

That's hard to imagine. Guys making more money than Tony still work the brand and appear in commercials. Hard to imagine why an NFL player would turn money down. I wonder if anyone in the media has asked him about this....I'm curious.

You know, I never really thought about it before. Did Troy do many commercials before retiring? I really don't think he did either. Maybe the idea of the Dallas Cowboys' QB, regardless of who is manning the position, is too polarizing? Maybe that's crap too and they just care more about what's important. Hell I don't know, but it is an interesting observation.

I'm kind of glad he doesn't do them. Shows he is focused more on football. Something he doesn't get credit for.

As if he did do commercials, people would whine that he should be watching game film or something.

Look at Rg3, what has he done except to be anointed by the media. So he does subway commercials and whatever.
Now he should promote benches I Guess.....lol....

I believe he's turning them down because of the false narrative the media continues to push. And then again, sponsors might see that as bad business. When the Powers That Be continue to paint you in a negative light, it's got to be quite a dilemma for both parties.
