found this interesting......the leverage continues. What does Tony want to get it done?

It's a domino thing. His agent has a few guys all in Romo's position right now and there are several good to great QBs working deals all at the same time.
They'll fall into place.
Rodgers is said to be signing soon, so that sets the high bar.
They know Flacco's deal
Then there is Ryan, Stafford, Romo, Cutler, Freeman...not necessarily in that order.

We already knew he can't really be franchised because of the cost. Is this saying he literally cannot be franchised?

Nnamdi, if I'm remembering correctly, had a similar clause with the Raiders.

Sadly, it's not an intentional clause in Romo's original contract. It was just an oversight, it seems. The contract says that if Romo is on the roster at the end of the 2013 league year, the contract immediately voids. That happens before the franchise tagging window. So voila, he's a free agent and there is nothing the Cowboys can do. I think Stephen Jones screwed the pooch on this one!

Considering how the team has been hamstrung by this and a few other contracts to really participate in FA, I was for sure that Tony would have agreed to a lucrative but team friendly deal. It hasn't happened yet so I question his negotiating team's posture and their expected outcome of his deal.

Maybe he doesn't want to sign an extension and instead plays out the year and becomes a FA. Maybe he knows the FA pool of QB's after the season is really really shallow and he'd be the best QB available. Since it'd be a seller's market, he'd make a killing.

Definitely a possibility.

It really could be Romo is just over Dallas? You never know.. He could be a bit tired of getting killed behind that o-line... Maybe he even goes as far to see what the FO does in the draft to protect him ..

Or it could simply be he is waiting on more money

I don't think he will sign. I have no logical reason to think that just a feeling I have. Lol. I hope I'm wrong though.

good points and I hear you but Romo in another team jersey is like Emmitt sporting Cardinals digs......it's just not right. :) He's set to make a ton with the Cowboys, can't imagine he'd uproot his life for another million or two.....

I think he is waiting for Rodgers to finish his then go from there. Once Aaron is finalized, Romo's will come shortly thereafter IMO.

I would like to see verification of this story.

Part of this story appears to be incorrect.

Thanks to previous renegotiations and restructures, Romo has a cap number of $16,818,835 for the 2013 season. That's the largest on the Cowboys, representing 14 percent of the team's "Adjusted Cap Number" of $119,999,156 for this season. If the Cowboys are unable to reach an extension with Romo, and hypothetically could use even the "non-exclusive" franchise tag on him next offseason, Romo's franchise tag would be worth 120 percent his 2013 cap number, or $20,182,602, an amount that would be fully guaranteed once the turning 33-year-old quarterback (who was intercepted 19 times last season) signed the tender

I'm fairly certain that the CBA reads "120 percent of his previous year's salary" (i.e. salary not cap number).

His 2013 salary is 11.5M (120 percent = 13.8M).

The $16,818,835 number is his cap hit, not salary.

He'll be resigned. The whole organization and the work know this now. It'll get done

Smart move by his side. Now if he's willing to live with the risk behind a shoddy line for a year, he can hit the market free and clear and sign wherever or to the highest bidder. I'm sure he's earned enough to date to take that risk, just don't know if it's in his personality to do so, meaning not be "loyal". He seems more old school than viewing it as a job.

Doesn't that actually help us in terms of what he could demand as far as guaranteed money? It was thought that he would demand more guaranteed money because he knew he had that $20+ M from the tag in his back pocket right?

Beautiful car! Love the color and the white racing stripes. That is one tough car.

If that is the case, I'd rather trade him now, while we can get something out of him, instead of being left out in the rain if he departs for a team that can afford to pay him what we cannot next offseason.
