I wouldn't be surprised if he tries to give it a go. In fact, I kinda expect that he will. I never question Tonys will.
This whole situation we are faced with in a way reminds me of what Washington had going with the rg knee situation last yr. he got out there and found a way but paid the price career wise. I know knee and back are diff. But still is it worth the risk.... I personally would let the doctors make the call.

The doctors are making the call. They have to clear him.

Until its successfully surgically repaired, he risks further injury just bending over. It doesn't look good for Tony.

It's probably not that bad. I have a bulging disk in my lower back (and in my neck) arthritis in my lower back, and multilevel disk and joint degeneration. I'm in the army and do everything required of my MOS (and our shop has the most and heaviest equipment so I do a lot of heavy lifting).

A direct hit or pain when scrambling is the least of Romo's worries. The biggest issue is how is the pain (or numbness) going to effect his throwing/mechanics?

People have been saying for a few weeks now that Romo has been "off" and that his passes don't have much zip on them. Now we know why.

Or twist and spin away from a sack like he has done so well in the past

I was thinking the same and wondering if his lack of mobility during the season (at times) had to be related at his back since he underwent surgery in the offseason.

Yeah, he can probably play if they numb it up enough, but like you said how does that affect his mechanics? But if the criteria for clearing him is "no possibility of further damage," he isn't playing. But that might not be the criteria.

I believe it has been affecting him most of the yr. he hasn't been as mobile as in the past and looks to get down quicker. We've had people on this board questioning his arm strength and say he is gun-shy all yr long. .... Smh

So beat them with quick passes and maybe the oline can make a stand.

That's sounds good. But when was the last time this offense adjusted to try and beat the blitz? I know they will have no option now, but they have to know they suck against the blitz but never do anything to change that.

It would be a delight to see. But if we do adjust and its successful, the coaching staff should be fired for never trying to adjust prior to this game. That has been the plan of several teams against us, especially the eagles and Commanders. Just blitz the heck out of us and you win.

I want them to make a smart decision on this. I want him to play IF doing so is not going to risk long-term damage to his health. If it's too risky to his future health and to his ability to play in future seasons, I'd rather he just sit this one out and get whatever medical care he needs. If the doctor says the risk is minimal, and genuinely so, not strong-armed to say so, then I'd much rather have Romo out there than Orton.

He's not playing; book it. It would be insanity to risk further injury to his back....

Not to say I was right, but I been saying this almost all year. Especially the past few weeks.

Ah, shades of Vinny saving the 2004 Thanksgiving Day game.

I was at that game! My first and last game at Texas Stadium. Drew Henson played horrible but Julius Jones was awesome. Too bad it didn't last!
