Ouch. I feel for Tony Romo. Back injuries are no joke, and sadly, they do tend to give you more problems as you age just like Tony's back started giving him problems during this match-play tournament he was participating in in Wisconsin recently.

Even then, Tony was tough enough to finish the match and help lead his team to a win.

After the match, Romo was asked by WisDotGolf’s Rob Hernandez about how he deals with back pain.

“My back, it definitely pops up more often than I’d like,” Romo said. “But I played 36 holes yesterday. I do this whole routine beforehand. I can’t just show up and play.”

The 42-year-old was shooting 1-under par after the 14th hole and wound up with a 1-up win to improve to 3-0.

Hope you feel better, Tony Romo, and congratulations on your win!

He could still come back if they let him compete for the starting job but they decided to avoid that once already

Yeah, i really feel sorry for him.

42 years old and still have to play golf on his own out there in the sun.
Usually people his age already have enough money so they dont need to go thru all this suffering.

I love Tony, but my back is in worse shape than his, and I make a small fraction of the money he makes, so my sympathy is limited.

He and I are similar. I have 2 ruptured disc's. That said it hurts to play golf. I have torn cuff so I can't throw.
But let's face it, it's flipping golf so suck it up!!!

Golf alone can give you back problems. Just ask Fred Couples.

That is entirely dependent on the skill of the surgeon. They aren't all equal. Certainly not something you do unless there are no other options or choices.

He would have went to another team in the off-season but he had a golf tournament and his back started hurting him and his wife convinced him to retire.

I do not know why that bothers some of you so much.

Tony was at his best mentally when his body gave out ......

Remember early in his career, he spent his offseason either trying out or playing on the pro circuit? I often wondered if it was the start of back issues he started having in football. Let's face it, he was trying to become a two-sport professional player. That takes a lot of practice and puts a ton of wear and tear on the body ( ask Bo Jackson ). I'm not sure many know this but he actually gave up golf the last 3-4 years of his career........wonder why?

The guy has had no ruptured disc. He fractured his spinous process.

Thats a very big difference. One required surgery or you have to lay in bed for weeks without movement. The other is treated with painkillers.

Latter is btw no big deal at all. If you can handle the pain you can do whatever you want. But Tony as we know him made a big show out of this.

Bo was injured in a freak football accident when he landed awkwardly on his hip. It wasn't an overuse injury. back in the 80's, that's all it took to end a career.

That said, when you are already nursing a "tender" lower back from football, there is no question golf would aggravate the situation. So, Romo used to limit his golf to the offseason later in his career.

NFL sidelines have tents for injured players to be checked out in... where's the middle of the greens golf tent?

The NFL definitely took a toll on the guy's back. Sucks, but he was healthily compensated for it and I'm sure has access to some of the best doctors.
