18 Playoff appearances, 8 Playoff wins, Superbowl appearance, multiple AFC Championship game appearances, he broke just about every single season passing record ever, widely acclaimed as the probably the best pure passer in NFL history up until more recently, etc.

Ya, I was just making the point that it IS possible to get in without a ring. That the ring is NOT the be all end all. Not that Romo's stats are anywhere near as glorific (is that a word? I just made it one, so there) as Marino's.... but I just feel a ring should not be the ONLY measuring stick of a HOF carerr. My opinion.

Tony Romo is not even close to being the QB that Marino was, so yes, for Romo he will need a ring and probably 2 to be considered.

I won't think about it until after he retires, still can be a lot of football left for his chance to get a ring or at least some playoffs wins.

Agreed. It's definitely possible to get in without a ring, ala Marino and Fouts, but it's very hard. Basically both Fouts and Marino where both acclaimed as the best pure passers of their day.

Moon got in with very little playoff success, however, he is something of a special case because he was basically denied entry into the NFL as QB because he was black, went to Canada and tore it up, and then had a long fairly, positive career, in the NFL.

He'll need at least two Super Bowls to get in.

Agree ........two SB wins gets him in on first ballot, one gets him in but NOT first ballot.......no SB wins, and he will just be in line with a whole bunch of other QBs with stats and no SBs....so likely not. He was a FA with no pedigree coming into the NFL. That is why the perception thing is major for him. He needs SB wins just to overcome those perceptions, fair or not.

In your opinion will Tony be a 1st ballot HOF after his career is over

It's hard to see that happening without a ring. One ring should get him in but my bet is it wouldn't be 1st ballot. Two rings (one can dream can't he?) he would be a slam dunk.

Plunkett had a lot of bad years during his career. He was a bust before ending up with the Raiders(his third team) and winning Superbowls. Even then he wasn't really outstanding during his time in Oakland and L.A.. He was steady for the Raiders, but nothing special. During his career he finished in the top ten in passer rating two times. Once in 1972(10th) and again in 1986(9th). Eli Manning has had a similar career having only finished in the top ten once during his career(7th in 2011).

Tony Romo has finished in the top ten for passer rating 7 times during his career and 4 times in the top five. He may notch his eighth top ten finish this season and fifth top five.

Roger Staubach finished in the top ten for passer rating 7 times during his career, 5 times in the top five and lead the league 4 times.

Troy Aikman finished in the top ten for passer rating 6 times during his career and 4 times in the top five.

Danny White finished in the top ten for passer rating 5 times during his career and 2 times in the top five.

Don Meredith finished in the top ten for passer rating 6 times during his career and 3 times in the top five.

I think Romo needs a Superbowl ring to get into the Hall of Fame. Dan Marino didn't because he produced huge season totals during his career and had a long career where he was able to amass large career totals. He still ranks third in passing yards and passing TDs for his career. Romo can't match that type of overall productivity. Tony has missed 69 possible games in his career. Most of that was because he didn't play his first three seasons in the league and some of it(16 games) was due to injuries. That is a lot of missed opportunities to produce some of the large passing totals that other guys in the HoF have accumulated. He has to make up that with efficiency and playoff success. He has the efficiency and now needs to produce a title.

Dan Marino finished in the top ten for passer rating 12 times during his career, 6 times in the top five and lead the league 1 time.

He needs a ring, maybe 2, and even then it may take years. Ken Stabler has a ring and has been a part of some of the most memorable plays in NFL playoff history and he's not in.

LOL he's in right now with 1 playoff win? The answer is no.

He has better stats than Troy Aikman right now. but please tell me its all about Super bowl wins and thats it...

cause if that's so Trent Dilfer won one.... Dan marino never won one... but please go ahead give your argument..

Are you 12 or something? I'm not even about to entertain you. There isn't one sensible person on this board, outside of yourself, who believes that Tony Romo is a HOF QB as it stands right now with 1 playoff win.

Lol boy you know you cant win an argument when you have to make personal attacks on an individual.

But that's okay cause everyone is entitled to their opinion while being a Internet tough guy.
