Romo's individual statistics and rankings rank among the greats, just he doesn't have the rings to back it all up. I honestly don't think it'd be far fetched to make that comparison if Romo somehow pulled together 2 Super Bowl wins before he retired.
It's all meaningless fluff anyways, what matters is right now. This topic can be revisited when he hangs it up,I mean it's kinda silly to talk about this while his career is still on going.
How many QBs in any era should get in to the HOF?
So where does he rank among his contemporaries?
The top 2 are Brady and Manning. Brees is a clear #3. There isn't an argument to be made that Romo's career is on the same level.
So let's guess that 5 or 6 QBs from Romo's era get in. Who are the next tier? Right now I'd rank them
Roethlisberger
Rodgers
Rivers, Romo
Eli Manning
I don't think Eli deserves it but the 2 rings make him a candidate. The fact that he plays in NYC is another advantage. OTOH I believe he's going to spend the rest of his career proving he doesn't belong.
Roethlisberger has the 2 rings, good stats and plays for one of the most popular teams. I think he's a nearly certain choice.
Rodgers looks like he's going to end up in the Brady/Manning category.
Rivers career numbers are similar to Romo's and I've never heard anybody argue he's a first ballot HOFer. He hasn't had great success in the playoffs but's had more than Romo. His big disadvantage is he plays in SD and the West Coast teams don't get the same attention. He also hasn't gotten the blame Romo got for his team's failure.
One Super Bowl win probably gets rid of most of the "Romo chokes in big games" meme. I suppose if Romo got to a Super Bowl and another couple of NFC Championship games that would be enough to get him in.
