It's just a rhetorical device he uses when he's describing the thought process for a generic NFL QB when he's explaining something. Think of the way you might teach a child how to, say, tie his or her shoe laces. "First, you make the bunny ears..." It makes it easier to be understood if you put the listener in your position as you explain a lengthy process.
He also uses first person a lot, if he's not explaining a process but rather talking about his own actions.

Personally, I think Tony does an outstanding job with the press. He generally offers real insight, and he doesn't avoid topics. He's good about saying 'I'm not going to answer that because I don't think it would help our team....' when appropriate, and he explains situations well and is entertaining to listen to. I even like the second person explanations.

Gimme would never use those tenses. I would hope that he would half more discretion and speak in the first person all the times.

Let's just cut to the chase and not beat around the bush. Is wearing his hat backwards the cause of all this supposed 2nd person use preference? Or is it the other way around. Or is it genetic? Enquiring minds want to know.

You never did the 'bunny ears' thing to teach a kid how to tie a shoe?

Oh i misread your post. you used the bunny ears as a example.
No in Farmers branch we like masculine examples such as: The ironworker gets his wife to tie his shoelaces or "Kid, you'll learn how to tie yo shoes when you trip over them and fall and the whole class laffs at you and then through your tears you will LEARN TO TIE YO SHOES." Tough love or they just grow up and then be dependent and we hate dependency.
thanks for the bunny example.
