I love Tony Romo.

I really do. Mostly, I love the fact that he wins football games for the Dallas Cowboys. But I also think Tony does things the right way. He's always smiling, quick with a joke, and never seems to take himself too seriously. And when he plays football, you know he's having a good time.

Watching Peyton Manning step under center, you get the feeling he'd have the exact same facial expression in the dentist's chair. Tony looks like he's playing backyard football—happy-go-lucky, with that "aw, shucks" grin and one chinstrap dangling in the wind.

That said, Tony Romo needs to cut the crap and get the Cowboys over the hump and into the Super Bowl.

In 2006, he stepped in in place of Drew Bledsoe and shocked everybody— absolutely everybody—by reeling off the victories and leading the Cowboys to the playoffs. He even made the Pro Bowl on the virtue of his first eight games, to the chagrin of many.

And then he entered the playoffs. Now, Romo was far from bad in that game: 17-for-29 for 189 yards and a score.

Not exactly lighting the world on fire, but he had no turnovers and gave his team a chance to win the game. And then came his infamous bobble.

OK, so everybody makes mistakes. The Cowboys were still a young team, and most people thought they'd be back better than ever and mentally stronger from their mishaps in the postseason.

It certainly looked that way for the first 13 weeks of the year, as Romo put up monstrous numbers and looked like an elite NFL quarterback.

But then the wheels started to fall off.

Dallas lost two of their last three, ensuring that they entered the playoffs with absolutely no momentum. Mr. Romo got caught vacationing with celebrity beau Jessica Simpson just a week after he had been thoroughly outplayed by Todd Collins (TODD COLLINS!?) in a loss to the hated Commanders in the season finale.

And then, for the second straight year, Romo failed to get his team through their first playoff game. I give full marks to the Giants in that game, as they played fantastic football, but every Dallas fan knows that the Cowboys should have won that game.

In the first playoff game in Texas Stadium in over a decade, against a divisional rival that they had conquered twice in the regular season, Dallas choked. There's no other way to put it. They gagged.

I wouldn't say that Romo was the reason Dallas lost, but he certainly didn't help their cause. 18-of-36 for 201 yards and a score to match one crucial interception.

The numbers weren't bad, but they weren't good enough to win the game for Dallas. That's what elite quarterbacks do—they do just enough to win the game. And too many times, after the Dallas defense got a big stop, did we see Romo and his cohorts trotting off after a three and out.

Romo's already living the dream: quarterbacking the Dallas Cowboys, dating the starlets, and rolling in a fat contract extension courtesy of Jerry Jones. But now it's time to get serious, and show that he's the real deal. At the helm of a Dallas team with arguably the most offensive talent in the league, now's the time.

No more excuses. He's had the time to grow, he's tasted the atmosphere of the playoff games and he's gone through the grind of a full regular season.

Anything less than a playoff win and a deep run in the playoffs will cement Romo's fledgling reputation as a playoff gag artist.

So before you take that actress out to dinner, Tony, before you play that celebrity golf tournament, make sure you take care of your business between the chalk lines. Don't get distracted.

All eyes are on you—and it's your shoulders that the blame will fall on if there's another playoff blunder in Big D.

No doubt! People are morons to think it was Romo's fault the Cowboys lost to the Giants!:bang2: :bang2: The Oline couldn't block, WR's dropped passes and Reeves sucks.

To point the finger at one player is stupid. It takes 53 men to win a championship not one individual!

As probably the first Tony Romo fan on these boards when all were going goo goo over pedigre boy Drew Henson. It was very apparent early on that Romo had elite QB skills, moxy, accuateness and leadership skills.

But agreed, he will be difined on winning playoff games.
No excuses

Romo had some bad throws in that game, but he obviously did do enough to win in that game it just didn't happen because of a combination of drops by his wrs and a couple of letdowns by the defense in the first half.

sigh....this is no longer an excuse. This team is built to win NOW! He had what, 19 ints last year, I want to see him cut that in half this year.

It cracks me up when people have issues with articles like this. Romo is too be blamed as much as Crayton and Reeves AND Roy.

In half? Come on now, let's be realistic.... I'd be happy if he only threw 12... not that 9 int wouldn't be nice, but it's probablly a little too wishful.

And yes the team IS built to win NOW, but we didn't lose because of Tony Romo... we lost because the team didn't perform to it's full potential (and it didn't help that T.O. was playing on a bum ankle).

Trust me, everyone has high expectations... the fans... the media... and more importantly the team. But we won't lose because of Romo, we'll lose because of the team. The QB is by far the most important position but it takes a team to win a Superbowl.

TO caught every pass Tony threw to him that game and he beat his man for 2 touchdowns in addition to the one he had in the first quarter. His ankle was a non factor. Dallas didn't lose because of Tony but like the article said, he didn't help matters at all.

Not to excuse Romo for a bad game, but an interception can't be called "crucial" if an incompletion would have yielded exactly the same result.

Lets see:

Romo was undrafted QB
Romo has only gone through one off season/pre season as the starter
Romo still hasnt completed 2 regular seasons but has gone to playoffs 2x already
Romo did enough to win both playoff games(lost both by a total of 4pts)

and the THIS?

Its time to put up or shut up?

To me... its more like... just keep your eye on the prize... then he and the Cowboys will be fine.

ps. Dump the Blonde. She is not wife material.

The biggest screw up

I don't know about y'all, but I would never be so confused as to think of Jessica Simpson as being a beau! Say whatever you will about her, but that is a woman!

Like it or not, all Cowboy QB's are judged by their success in the playoffs and Super Bowls. That just comes with the territory. There is still plenty of time for Tony to offset that 0-2 post season record he sports so far. But clearly the natives are getting restless.

Although she is a fine specimen from the neck down, I really have never been impressed by her beauty. I'm not saying she should brown bag it, but I think all this talk of her being this amazingly beautiful woman are overblown anyway. If she wasn't famous, she'd just be another cute girl in the crowd in my opinion.

So I assume that if your boss and co-workers ask you to dump your wife or girlfriend you'd do it for the good of the company? I mean after all, if you weren't spending so much time with her, you could be at work making dividends for the company. You selfish guy you.
