Tony Romo v. Drew Henson Revisited

As a proud long time supporter of Tony Romo, as well as an avid supporter of the current quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys, I can say that I was one of his first believers. That is, I thought he had the potential to be great as he occupied the 3rd string quarterback position. Then, low and behold, he gets named the 2nd string over Henson and eventually unseats potential Hall of Famer, Drew Bledsoe.

How many posters can honestly say they believed in him from the beginning?

And if you didn't believe in him from the beginning, at what point did you begin to believe in him, if at all? And what reasons, if any, do you believe in Tony Romo right now?

No, he's not perfect. But I think we'd be hard pressed to find many posters who now disapprove of our quarterback situation. I just want to hear some feedback from those who have come around to support TR, and what were the key factors in the change of heart?

The title is a little misleading and loaded, I admit. So the focus isn't really on Drew Henson, rather our current situation.

However, if you feel we'd be better of with Henson as our current quarterback, you can say that too.

Cheers

Never really gave Romo second thought his first year. After he stuck his second year and Tuna talked about him some i started to take notice. By year three it became obvious he might be a player, but ya, it took me three years to believe.

I've been wondering when we'd see your latest "I was always a Romo supporter" chest thumping thread and what new twists it would take. Nothing was really new I guess.

I', thumping my chest as I kept telling people that Henson was no good, he may have shined a little in college but he did not stick around to make his star shine permanently, and as I said back then, he wasted too much time trying to play baseball, you cannot step away from football for 5yrs and then come back to play at the highest level and at the hardest position.

I never thought he would be what he is.

I remember him playing in a preseason game and winning a game with a QB sneak TD (I think).

I was opposed to him taking over for Drew because I didn't think I was ready.

Never really was specifically a fan of his, just rooted for him because the team needed a QB and he was a Cowboy.

And for the record, I'm pretty sure I called Henson's release before it happened. I said he was worthless and was saying it wouldn't shock me to see Dallas cut him.

Just thought I would throw that in since we are self promoting here.

drew henson is the better quarterback. you were totally wrong and we are reaping the rewards of having romo as our qb. no playoff wins, including missing the playoffs last year. you backed the wrong horse.

does that make you feel better about yourself now?

Drew Henson was set up for failure.

He need experience, and was lacking in just that.

You aren't going to get better without reps at the NFL level.

Even Romo struggled in some games. But he also had T.O. and Terry Glenn supporting him.

Hmmm... So this is basically a giant "I told you so" thread?

I started believing in him when in preseason, he did the quick snap QB sneak at the goal line. They said he did it all on his own.
Can anybody find the pic that was posted on this site that showed all three QBs in training camp taking the snap from center and taking a 3 or 4 step drop and throwing. The poster or coach pointed out how much quicker and ready to deliver the ball, Romo was than the other two QBs. That got my attention about Romo too. If somebody could re post that it's worth revisiting.

I'll admit to thinking Henson would be better until they messed with his delivery. He wasn't great before but they made him worse.

I don't specifically remember saying Romo was a player but I do recall the Tuna riding Bledsoe for far too long before going to Romo.

You're so predictable. It was an honest question. And there was no chest thumping. Don't be upset because you, a self-proclaimed quarterback expert, never gave 'ole noodle arm a chance.

I was one of the ones kind of disappointed we didn't take that proverbial third round pick that was offered in the draft. I'm still not convinced. I know I'm in the minority, but I'm not sure that Romo has not already peaked. That said, it sure is a heck of a lot more exciting to watch these last couple of years.

Nothing would make me happier than to have Romo prove me wrong. I want the Cowboys to win..period. If he has a great career (like Moreno) and still comes away without a championship, I'll be very disappointed. I want the rings, not the kudos for having guessed right about this player or that player.

I had major doubts from the get go with Romo it was not until he took over as the starter and I got the chance to see him play in that role. Now I have no doubts about his ability to play the position at a high level
