Tony Romo: Walking the Fence
« Thread Started Today at 11:52am »

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tony Romo is walking the fence, a pure balancing act that is a hard feat to pull off. On one side of the fence is his"Hollywood" Movie star girlfriend, the PGA, Mexico trips, and the perceived idea that Mr Romo has gone pure prima donna. It is believed that all the attention/exposure that comes with being the qb of the Dallas cowboys, arguably the most high profile position in all sports, has gone to his head. That somehow it isn't enough. That His eyes have now turned away from winning super bowls and now are on "other more important things."
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
On the other side of the fence is Being the star qb of the Dallas Cowboys, Americas team, the team you either love or hate. A team built on championships , but it has been awhile, and cowboy fans are starved for the glory and glamor that "super" success brings. Personal stats mean little to the fan base, where a teams ( and mr romos) success will be judged on titles and nothing else. being good isn't good enough if no rings are involved.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tony seems to be walking this fence with his entire career, reputation, and Cowboy legacy hanging in the balance. I wonder if he really knows which direction he truly wants to go.I even hear he is teaming up with "Tiger Woods" on a pga media fest. Tony says he has started a tougher workout regimen. We hear he has been working with Roy Williams to get their timing down. Romo says he "WILL BE" the team leader, and change the perception that he could careless/ its OK if he never brings a ring to Dallas. Really......What you are telling us is you have not gone Hollywood?!!! You golf for the fun of it?!!! The PGA qualifying wont detract from the Dallas Cowboys?!! Or is it a case of Tony doing what Tony wants, and the whole 100% commitment that it takes to win a super bowl is fine as long as it can be fit in to his busy schedule.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The bottom line as I see it is This is make or break time for tony romos career. He is leaning heavily towards "break"! He has begun to get the reputation as a choker, and it is essential that take the big step and win big games when they mean the most. It is hard for me to believe he is serious about turning his career around, when this entire off season has been about qualifying for a pga event. According to the media that is....
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Remember two things Mr Romo all your celebrity stats comes from being a star qb of the Dallas cowboys.Once that is gone, if you blow this gig, it all falls like a house of cards. Number two is when you fall straddling the fence it hurts. Prossman

Tony Romo has been a starting NFL QB for 2 1/2 seasons. How do you become considered a choker in such a short time?

If Romo cannot walk the tightrope (I dislike saying fence walking) set before him, he doesn't deserve the title of Dallas Cowboys starting quarterback. Fortunately for him, he and Jerry Jones hold his destiny in the palms of their hands and no one else does.

We finally have a QB..and people still want more. It's amazing.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again....Romo is the reason why we have a chance to win and compete in every game we play!

If you don't believe that...put in the tape of Drew Bledsoe on the year Romo took over, and look at last season when he was hurt.

Did you have any confidence in this team without him? I think not.

A team of 53 talented players, but if you don't have that "one" you have NO chance....and we have that "one" player.

Enjoy it while it's here....because when it's gone....it could take another decade to find "one".

I ask this same question all the time. 2 1/2 seasons for a QB is nothing as a starter in the NFL. Folks need to stop trippin!!!

Yes, I would say He, Jerry, Jessica, and TO are all on the same publicity train. Anything to keep the "NAME" and Jerry's billion dollar investment in front of the public eye twelve months out of the year. Seems they have it down pat as to how to fool the public into "Believing". It has been going on for a long time and is just now reaching full speed. How much longer is his contract. I'd buy a ticket and get on board and enjoy the ride. No one is going anywhere. Oh the Games people play.!!!!:bow:don't forget he has a contract with Starter Apparel, and she has a new Reality show to promote.

If if wasn't for the horrible call of no first down on the Witten catch, Dallas would've scored to take the lead. There would've been no field goal attempt. And did you see the shine on that ball? What about the crazy Terry Glenn fumble? How about our offense not attacking their inexperienced secondary? A whole of stuff happened in that game. Blame Romo if you want to.

I am pulling for Tony Romo. Allot of this debate over weither or Not Romo is being serious enough is media created in my opinion. I could careless what he does in his off time as long as as he performs well on the field. Public perception is romo is a slacker who doesn't care. That comes from the urinal of lousy reporting from the 2008 season, where reporters printed first and checked sources later. I have been disgusted by the pathetic reporting swirling around the cowboys since bill parcells got here, and then amplified when TO got here. The question of has tony gone hollywood is my number one concern this year. Had Romo not taken the cabo trip, his playing thru injuries from the second giant game forward would go down as one of the gutsiest performaces from a cowboy qb. We absolutly had zero chance of getting to the playoffs with brad johnson starting the last 3 games of the year. I really think tony hasn't defined himself as a qb yet, and this is a pivitol year for him. I believe he will step up to the plate and become the leader of this team. I sure hope he proves me right. I KNEW this version would end up being "fact" for most people years after the fact. I guess you don't remember that the FG, even if made would in fact not have won us the game in all likelihood. The defense was absolutely atrocious and couldn't stop the Seahawks and they still had plenty of time to inevitably score a TD or FG and win the game even if our FG was successful.

With how our Defense was playing, we were doomed that game anyway. Get over it.

I don't blame him for it cause I still say they greased that ball. I blame parcells or the oc whoever called that quick pass to Glenn(should have been thrown to the cancer) and Glenn for fumbling it. but that's what everybody else(non cowboy fans) remember about that game. than in 2007 he has a fantastic year and falls short against the Giants. once again everybody else(non Cowboy fans) don't remember Ellis's sorry attempt for a tackle on the Toomer td, Fasano dropping a td, Crayton dropping a wide open pass that would've been a huge gain if not a td or Crayton hesitating on his route that would've been the game winning td. they Remember Romo throwing a pick to end the game.

Romo plays qb for the most loved yet hated team in the NFL.

Romo is a good qb on a good Cowboys team that everybody hates.

Romo and his team are possibly on the verge of going on a rampage:D and playing up to there potential. that scares opposing fans.

Romo got a big contract and is making a lot of money.

Romo was dating beautiful famous woman such as Carrie Underwood, Sophia Bush and is now dating Jessica Simpson.

Romo has everything a man could want in a dream job, fame, money, a beautiful girlfriend(millions of men around the world agree) except big time success in football.

because of that he will referred to as a "choker" and "Tony Homo" until he starts winning playoff games and hopefully a superbowl or 2(or 3 or 4 or 5 etc.) people hate Romo and his postseason failures are basically the only thing that you could hate on him about right now as an opposing fan or just some jealous person. they can't hate on his skills, money, girlfriend etc. but they can hate on his postseason failures cause you know just like I know just like they know that those failures will come to an end sooner than later.

I think Romo gets too much credit for the mishaps of the past few seasons. He's certainly not been perfect in the clutch, but the truth of the matter is, the team as a whole should have never put themselves in such a situation as a whole unit.

Had Romo not taken the cabo trip, his playing thru injuries from the second giant game forward would go down as one of the gutsiest performaces from a cowboy qb.

So going to Mexico the year before nullifies playing through injuries last December?

How much sense does that make?

Romo is judged by a higher standard because he is the Caowboys QB.

What exacerbates that and reduces his excuses are when Eli and Roethlisberger have already won AND Rivers has taken SD to the AFC Championship.

I think it is unfair because conventional wisdom said that this team was loaded with talent the last few years. In 2007, I agree but last year was injuries-laden and 2006 was a slightly above average team. I think the coaches are not very good evaluators of talent or readiness (read B Johnson, Proctor, not playing Choince or Felix (when healthy)more, etc)

The problem was that the last offensive play in 2006 was a Romo miscue, the last play in 2007 was a Romo INT, the last game in 2008 was a INT and fumble (total team collapse). All he had to do was win one of the last 2 games to be in the playoffs and the team lost both and he had turnovers in both.

Doesn't mean Tony will be or is a choker, but he has to be more cognizant of what he can control. The "if the worst thing that ever happens to me ", "Mexico/Cabo to blow of steam", "PGA qualifying", INT=punts, more TO than TDs in Dec, etc, etc are fanning the flames with him opening the pilot light.

People don't give Brady **** about "going Hollywood." No, they only throw that bull**** in Romo's face.

The reason? Because Brady has won it all. Romo hasn't yet. Which brings us to the only real thing that he should get pressue on: winning it all.

(For that matter, I don't recall Aikman recieving this kind of crap for dating country music star Lorrie Morgan or actresses Sandra Bullock and Janine Turner).

That all of this Hollywood crap will stopped being talked about when he wins just goes to show how utterly feckless and stupid it is to talk about now.

Talk about what he needs to do get over the hump. Don't waste precious brain cells by pontificating about whether he has "gone Hollywood."
