I have a question and please dont say im trolling because it is a genuine curiosity. No matter what his potential is, or how good hes playing don't you think the media may have jumped the gun on Tony Romo? Thats not to say that he will not become the quarterback they are saying he already is but whatever happened to cautious optimism?
I think many of you would agree that the list of people who have been good for 6 games, or hell even one season is not a particularly short list and I think its odd that someone is being talked about like a hall of famer for his performance in 6 games. I mean hell, look at Aaron Brooks stats his first two years.

Just to let you know i mainly post this here because id like to see what cowboys fans think about this. I understand fanboyism, and its prevalent on our forums as well so you wont annoy me, just dont flame me.
My theory is that the media is overhyped to get behind certain teams. The cowboys were the most beloved team by the media in their superbowl years and now that it looks like its even possible they could have another aikman they are getting ahead of themselves.

Opinions?;)

Welcome to the world circa 2006. Of course everything is overdone, there's a lot of media outlets to feed. Having said that, I would challenge you to find any player in recent memory that has started with the bang Romo has. His numbers until the Giants game were playstation material. Add to that he plays for a high profile team, and has a great personality and it's a volatile mix.

I think about this a lot but you have to take into consideration the circumstances...

Cowboys were viewed as one of the favorites for the NFC...on talent alone...

It's no secret that we were underperforming and the rumors during TC of a QB switch just added fuel to the fire...

So, when Romo came in, it was with some fanfare as he was an unknown out of a 1-AA school...

You add all those together plus his performance as one of the best QB's over the past 2 months and there you have the hype...

But, the question you need to ask yourself is...

Does he justify the hype with his performance?...

Remember, he played his first few games ON the road and performed very well...

Hey man, welcome to the boards, I don't consider this trolling.. it's a fair question.

Let's get this straight, Romo is still gaining experience by the week. The one thing we're all encouraged by is the fact that Tony seems to have a short memory. He didn't played that great against the Giants in the 3rd quarter during our first meeting, but then brought us back into the game. He didn't play well against the Giants last week in the 1st half, but came back in the 2nd half and dominated.

His 2nd half QB rating is off the chain. Entering the Giants game, the 3 games prior to that (Washington, Indy, Tampa), he was something ridiculous like 29/31.. pretty sure it was for about 350 yards and 4 or 5 TD's.

Sunday, against the Giants, Romo was 6/7 for 92 yards in the 4th quarter.

You will hear the word "moxie" around here alot. He has it. IT. He looks mature beyond his years, does a great job reading the defense, has great pocket presence and is also extremely level-headed.

Most importantly, he's a hard worker. He never stops working hard, and that goes all the way back to when he was in college.

He is a Parcells guy through and through, and that's something that will benefit him and keep him level-headed. Notice he gives all his credit to his teammates?

Basically, we've gone through 9 crappy QB's and we've finally found a true young good QB. Do I believe he's getting overhyped? Well.. maybe a little bit. But does he deserve the majority of it? You better believe it.

Fact is, being the most popular team in the NFL, our media coverage is through the roof, and it'll always be like that.

Sorry for the long response.. good luck on Sunday night.

Don't forget, Romo is 5-1 as a starter, and that should be 6-0, no thanks to that crazy play in Washington. He's played @Carolina, @Washington, @Arizona, at home against Indy and Tampa and then @NYG. 4 of his 6 starts have been on the road, in pretty hostile environments (minus the Arizona game), and he has performed well.

The scary part? He's only going to get better.

im sure he is but it still stands that the media doesnt get behind other rising stars the way they seem to be doing with the cowboys.

What about Grossman earlier this year? He was what Romo is now.

Unless you've watched him, you can't understand. His stats are the best in the league - and they don't do justice to how good he's been. We were all skeptical. But the guy's clutch. He's got it. Moxie. You'll hear all that. When he's in there, the team doesn't think they can lose. He's a natural leader. He's also a veteran, so it's not like this is some rookie coming in losing his head and just heave-ho-ing to TO and Glenn. He spreads the ball, makes better reads than anyone, quicker than anyone.

In short, the Saints will know exactly why he is so hyped after sunday.

It's not really that difficult to understand, Dallas is one of the most popular teams in the league. Romo would be a story anywhere but of course it's followed more closely because more people care about Dallas.

The difference is that Grossman has reverted to what he was at Florida. Feast or famine.

well i didnt mean to say it was cowboys exclusive. Perhaps from a fan of a team with a losing tradition were not used to seeing the media so quick to be positive. I mean the saints were like 5-1 this year and not in the top 10 on dr. z's rankings....

He was talking about the media frenzy surrounding the QBs. Not performance. You could tell with Grossman if you had the personnel to force him to check down and still pressure with 4 he would hang himself.

Reggie and Colston and Brees and the whole feel-good Saints story begs to differ.

Grossman was getting a lot of hype early in the year.

:welcome: by the way.

Regardless of the attention or respect that the Saints get or don't get, the media jumps on stories and like a feeding frenzy they all come in trying to find the new angle. QB controversies are something they love. It's like blood in the water to them.

If Jay Cutler comes out this week and beats the Chargers in an impressive fashion watch the media circus.

The bottom line is, the kid played out of his mind, especially in the 2nd half of games and then to top it off, a rumor got started about him an a pop princess being a new item.

If you think the media isn't going to jump all over that, especially given the fact it's Dallas, well then you're being a bit naive.
