3 things that worry me

#1 coaching: I don't think I have to explain this
#2 O-Line: seem to gas and fail to do there job late in the season lately
#3 schedule: another very hard post thanksgiving stretch

3 things that get me excited about this season

#1 young, hungry and determined players getting playing time. at the end of the year when Jenkins wasn't hurt and rarely got thrown at. i'm sure he also wants to make up for the Derrick Ward incident. O-dog(scandrick) was asked if he went on vacation in the offseason and he said he went to a gym cause he wants to be one of the best. Sensabaugh is in a contract year and on a team where he can showcase his skills. Felix and Choice both showed they're capable and deserving of more playing time. rookie special teamers eager to show they can ball and want more playing time. edit: forgot about Bennett too.

#2 kinda the same as above but improved coverage and more youth in the secondary.

#3 hopefully a refocused and less turnover prone qb in Tony Romo.

Excite:

Crash, Dash and Tash. This could be one of the greatest RB seasons this team has had.

Bennett. His maturing in regard to the game could make the TE position a real problem for the other team. I think he can be the real deal.

Ware. I do not think last year was a fluke. His character says he is the type to turn it up a notch after Jones pays him.

Concerned.

Romo. Can he learn from his past and control the emotional play that causes turnovers?

Austin. Can he stay on the field and can he consistently get separation?

Offensive line. Can the running game rejuvenate this squad and can they drastically eliminate the penalties?

The excited aspects I almost expect.

If the concerns pan out this team will be in the hunt in January.

Excellent thread/post.

Things that worry me:

1. Overall coaching and playcalling, especially late in the season. (see also December swoon)

2. Key injuries to our offensive line and/or Tony Romo.

3. Our December schedule that touts 3 divisional games.

Things that excite me:

1. I'm excited about the house cleaning that took place this offseason. The riff raff is gone. The dark clouds have been lifted. Now it's time to get back to winning when it matters most.

2. Defensively, we should be much better as a unit, especially in the secondary.

3. A healthy Marion Barber, Felix Jones, and Tashard Choice running wild on everyone.

Worried:
1) Injuries. That's the case every year. As great a sport as football is, this has always been it's achilles heel. You just never know if or when the injury bug will bite in a big way as it did us in 2008 or in a selective yet deadly manner. Romo, Ware or Adams going down for the count would kill us.

2) WR. I'm hopeful yet not convinced we bring enough to the table here. How good is Austin? Do any of us really know? Is he a legit #2. Let's assume he demonstrates that type of ability and poses a true deep threat opposite Williams. Will he stay healthy and do it for 16 games?
What do we really have in Williams? He is a legit #1? I like hia athleticism. Tall, strong and fast. With a real nose for the ball. No doubt he'll get his in the red zone. I just worry if he has the quickness and the ability to uncover consistently. Also conerned a little about his attitude. He doesn't come off a serious guy who's hungry enough.

3) OL depth. See #1 concern. I just can't see us weathering an injury to Adams, Columbo or Geroude. We can't lose one of these three to a season ender. Losing one or more of them for a few weeks is OK. We just better have them all for any post season action.

Excited:

1) Tony Romo. The number one ingredient for a championship caliber team in today's game is a franchise QB. I'll be excited each any every year he's in his prime. Hopefully at least 5-6 more years. His play took a step back last year no doubt. Even that "diminished play" was still better than 75% of the leagues starters. You can make an arguement for 5,7, perhaps 9 QB's to rank ahead of Romo. I'll take Romo.

2) Defense. The number two ingredient for a champion. The infusion of youth and speed in our secondary will catapult this unit to a top ranking for sure. I'll go consrvative a project a top 5 ranking, but to be honest I'm expecting and hopeful they can be the best in football next year.

3) Felix Jones. I feel like we just scratched the surface last year with him. Been a long time since I saw that type of legit home run threat out of our backfield. Somewhat reminiscent of Dorsett. Just the feeling he gave me that he could score evry time he touched the ball. Not that he reminds me of Dorsett, he doesn't. His game is very deifferent. Jones actually reminds me more of Marshall Faulk.
I really think he's the future. As explosive a home run threat as he was, I still thought he showed some toughness and ability to run between the tackles. I believe he'll be the difference for us on offense

Honerable mention: Bennett. Great athlete. He should cause huge match up problems out of a 2 TE set. What really impressed me was a couple things I hardly hear people mention. He can really block well and didn't drop a pass.
He also looked rather smooth out their. Not like some rookie athlete with no skill or head for the game.

Ill just say this, this is everyone's year to put up or shut up. Thats the only poistive because beside Owens this is basically the same team we had since 07.

Negatives

1. Were moving to a run offense but our oline is not excatly the best run movers. They might be big and maulers but they dont dominate like they should. How many 3rd or 4th and 1's did we miss last year running the ball. I say we got half of our running production off shotgun draw plays where everyone was spread out. When everyone is condensed it seems we cant run a lick. That concerns me. We're not going to spread them out like last year. We do have quailty backs though.

2. Jason Garrett. I never seen an offensive coordinater call the same 5 plays week in and week out. He was not joking when he said during Hard Knocks that this year(previous year) regardless of what defense the other team was in were still going to run our play. He said he didnt want to hear no more whining that there was 9 in the box, etc. If team A is playing 9 in the box I suggest a quick throw because your not going to run 9 on 7. Thats the hard headed philosphy that drives me crazy. Mike Martz never runs the same play twice the entire year. I find that hard to beileve but that what they say on tv.

3. We could use another veteran db. If Newman goes down we have to rely on 4 young corners. Its like have a starting pitching staff of all 1st and 2nd year players. Shawn Springs would of been right for this team as the 4th corner and some saftey play. If a young guy lost his confidence he woud fill in throughout the year if need be.

Worries

1. Will Spencer be ready to step up and contribute on the NFL level full time? Up until this point he has proven otherwise. Perhaps the Michelin Man knows something most don't know. I'm watching closely.

2. Will Jason Garrett finally get over the proverbial Tecmo hump and begin to game plan with a strategy that keeps opposing defensive coordinators on their heels? Run first offense? Lots of play action to setup the pass? Inserting a mixture of creative routes that allow Romo to find more than one wide open guy? Red has his work cut out for him. I won't dog the guy anymore. I want to see him succeed. However, recent history hasn't shined a positive light on his abilities.

3. Romo Romo Romo... I want to see this guy take his game to the next level. Right now he's an above average QB. Some say top 5... I say top 10. (which isn't necessarily a bad thing...) That said, I would like to see the continued progression that says he really wants to lead this team deep into the playoffs on an annual basis.

Excitement

1. Romo... I love what he brings to the table. Sometimes he wows me with his escapability and poise while other times he makes me want to throw my glass through the TV screen. Bottom line, he gets things stirring inside whenevr he's on the field and I hope his ascension continues.

2. Choice... I've said it time and time again. Choice is the real deal. I hope we don't end up doing something stupid like trading him away... The guy is a MAN on the field and also has begun to cement himself as a great locker room presence. 88 yards against PIT, 91 yards against the NYG, 90 yards against BAL, and 60 yards against filthy down the stretch last year.. This all during a time when some had initially wondered where our running production was going to come from with Felix and MB3 sidelined with injury. I knew Choice was the man and appreciate the cookie for saying so. Hopefully they keep him around because he has a chance to be something really special for this team.

3. Beans and Rice! Bennett and Witten have an opportunity to really light up the middle of the field and own opposing defenses with their combined athleticism. Sure, Witten is a masher in his own right.. but Bennett is going to really open some more eyes this year. Romo has to be salivating at the possibility of having so many weapons on the field at one time.

Now that I have turned 70, I no longer get excited or worried about football teams but if I were still the kind to become emotionally involved in football I would be excited about:

1. - Jerry flushing the toilet and getting rid of most of the crap.
2. - The new attitude Jerry seems to have.
3. - The new attitude the team seems to have.

I would be worried about:

1. - Coaching.
2. - Injuries
3. - Jerry still being the GM and not knowing if or when his new attitude will change back into the old Jerry.

I may or may not get to watch any games this year as our TV mast and antenna blew down in a storm a couple of months ago right after analog went away and we have been without TV ever since. Our lives are much better now and we don't miss our 4-5 TV channels at all and feel that a great weight has been lifted off of us.

It's possible we may eventually decide to buy one of those new digital TVs and get some kind of Satellite dish or something but I would sure hate to lose my new found peace of mind and contentment of not having that blaring cyclops dominate our lives any more. Happiness is a TV set turned off.

Others may feel differently about TV or the team...that's OK, too.

3 Things That Worry Me
1. Tony Romo's ball security issues (easiest of the 3 things here to fix though).
2. Jason Garrett's ability to use all 3 RBs effectively.
3. Oline: They *MUST* give Romo time and do better job picking up blitzers. Fixing this goes a long way to help fix #1.

3 Things That Excite Me
1. MBIII/Choice/Jones.
2. The potential in Roy Williams and Miles Austin as #1/#2 WRs.
3. The defense as a whole; enough personel upgrades, growth of young players and time with Wade Phillips to help solidify them for this coming season (especially in the 2ndary)
*. Adding to Hostile's post...having McBriar back will be SO SO SO nice.

Worry:
1. Questions at WR
2. Inexperience and the new guys in the secondary
3. Jerry might waste some more draft picks for a player(s) who won't really help us this season (if ever).

Excited:
1. The 3 headed RB monster--very interested in seeing how they work together healthy, and in a second season together.
2. That we have a SS that can actually cover for the first time in many years.
3. Knowing that this is the last season of the Phillips experiment and that we'll be moving on in 2010.

WORRIES:

1. Injuries- If we don't have numerous or key injuries we will make the playoffs; just like we would have last year with a healthy team.

2. Injuries

3. Injuries

Okay to play by the rules I'll make O-line impersonating turnstiles at a free concert #2 and lack of interceptions and fumble recoveries on defense as #3. I'm also concerned about Folk's labrum. He's awfully young to have needed that kind of surgery.

EXCITEMENT:

1. Felix Jones and Marty B

2. The new stadium. I'll be at the home opener against the Giants, God willing.

3. Special teams with Coach Joe #2, the young guys on coverage and beuhler kicking 'em into the endzone

4. all the new, young CB's drafted last year and this year.
