I would imagine everyone's choice in music will be different thus everyone's lists will likely be geared towards rap or country or perhaps both. Personally, I listen to just about anything though rap has never been the same since Tupac passed and I can pick up more stations than country now.
Anyway, here's what I've been spinning the most in 2004:
Honorable Mention - Keane - Hopes and Fears - I got this album for cheap at Best Buy but it's worth double what I paid. Fans of Radiohead or Britpop in general should pick it up to hear a band that is ready to breakout any time.
5. Green Day - American Idiot - Probably our version of The Who's 'Tommy'. They're old by today's standards, but they can still show the young guys how to do it.
4. Snow Patrol - Final Straw - They're Ireland's answer to Coldplay though not as finely crafted at this point. That said, this album has some great songs on it with 'Run' being one of my favorite songs of the year.
3. The Killers - Hot Fuss - The first half of this CD is as superb as anything you'll hear all year. They can't keep up the energy through all 11 tracks but it's refreshing to hear something different on the radio.
2. U2 - How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb - They still got it. Probably my second favorite U2 album next to The Joshua Tree (one of the greatest albums ever IMO). 'Original of the Species' - my pick for song of the year.
1. Jimmy Eat World - Futures - No album played more in my CD player than the latest from JEW. Every song on the CD is a potential single with no filler included. With the only misstep being the second to last song, it's as close to flawless as anything released this year. Helps that my girlfriend likes to listen to it while...ahem.
