Inspired by the Aikman vs Favre thread. Along with the fact that we are excited about our Boys like it's the early 90's again. I thought I would take a crack back at the 90's and rank the top 5 of the decade at QB, RB and WR to see where our triplets rank.

Please do your own, as I would love to see a consensus.

Best QBs of the 90s
1. Steve Young
2. John Elway
3. Brett Favre
4. Troy Aikman
5. Jim Kelly

Best RBs of the 90s
1. Emmitt Smith
2. Barry Sanders
3. Thurman Thomas
4. Marshall Faulk
5. Terrell Davis

Best WRs of the 90s
1. Jerry Rice
2. Michael Irvin
3. Chris Carter
4. Andre Reed
5. Isaac Bruce

Some will say that Aikman is too low, but I think that's the right spot for him. I had a hard time leaving Marino and Moon off.

I don't care what anyone says, Emmitt was better than Barry. He has the stats and he has the rings.

I was really close to putting Irvin above Rice. Just talking the 90's here, I think Irvin has a case that he was a better WR for that single decade.

No Dan Marino?

Like I said in my original post, it was really hard leaving Marino off. I think he's a better QB than every one that I listed (except maybe Elway). But his best seasons, both in terms of statistics and team success, came in the 80's.

I like your lists.

Names that deserve some consideration are:

QB: Randall Cunningham, Warren Moon

RB: Jerome Bettis, Curtis Martin, Rodney Hampton, Barry Foster, Rickey Watters, Chris Warren, Eddie George....WOW, the 90s were great for RBs.

WR: Sterling Sharpe, Rod Smith, Tim Brown, Herman Moore, Jimmy Smith

I'd probably put Marino on there and I would put Young below Elway, Favre and Aikman (I was never big on Young I feel at least Favre, Elway, and Marino were better QBs). I'd leave Kelly off the top five, I would also probably put Moon above him too. It was just a real good decade for QB's, nothing against Kelly. The RB's are about right... maybe Faulk above Thomas. I'd also see if I could fit Eddie George on there somewhere, I'd probably put him on there above Davis because of career length.

As for WR's... I don't think I could put Irvin above Rice, but I will say for a few year span Irvin was definitely the best WR in the game... maybe 2 or 3 years, but overall it's hard to go against Rice with his numbers. I might slide Tim Brown on there instead of Carter or Reed. I don't know which, I'd have to give it more thought that just this response. I do feel as if Brown deserves to be on there though.

I think you also have to talk about Steve Largent and James Lofton at WR.

I think you also have to talk about Steve Largent and James Lofton at WR.

Both made their mark <largely> in the 80's. Heck Lofton was drafted in 77 or 78.

Having said that he played FOREVER and was good even in the early 90s.
