Top free agent need: C.B. or Def. End?

I personally think we need a Def. End more desperately than a Corner. I believe it was Hostile in another thread that accurately pointed out that the Achilles for Ellis will either be a career ending injury or will limit his efectiveness to the point we''ll have to find another D.End. Who's out there this year? The need for a Corner is almost as bad. I don't know what happened to Henry last year, but he was mentally and physically fried by the time we played Seattle. I think moving him to Safety, a position he played in College is a solid idea. Is it possible to find a starting Corner at #22 in the draft? My opinion is probably not. I guess third place on the free agent list would be the o. line. I don't even know where to start there........pretty below avg. year by everyone except Columbo. I thought he and Flo did a solid job. Everyone else should be put on notice. I know Gurode is a F.Agent-I don't know as I'd bring him back quite honestly. He's never impressed me. Kosier and Rivera were BAD and should be replaced yesterday.

Depends on whether Henry is moved to safety.

There are so many 3-4 OLBs that are going to be available around pick 22. On the other hand there are only 1-2 CBs that might be available. Seems the safer route to go with CB in FA and OLB in the draft.

I really think we're fine at DE, but with Henry possibly moving to CB and Glenn getting up there in yrs, signing a decent CB or drafting one early is definitely something I could see

I agree. Clements or Samuels would be good although expensive additions if Henry is moved to FS.

Who knows. Dallas could also find a prime FS in the draft as well.

My money is on Dallas going out and paying for some good OL to really shore up the line and give Romo more time even if he has happy feet.

Dallas cannot afford to spend more money on the secondary. Henry and Williams are making too much already. I wouldn't have been turned off to the idea of Nate Clements if Roy would have been allowed to leave. Dallas cannnot afford to bring in a FA corner. If they absolutely need a corner, than draft one in the first.

Brandon Meriweather in the 1st takes care of the FS position and lets us leave Henry at CB. (Anyone catch Meriweather in the Senior Bowl? WOW)

Ellis is ahead of schedule in his rehab and should be fine by training camp. If we stay in the 3-4, Carpenter can platoon with him. If we move to 4-3, Hatcher will do that.

I'd put OG (Rivera's replacement) as priority #1 in free agency.

I see no reason to not use both.

I agree. Not only that, Dallas may have ten picks...but it's not like all ten picks are going to be #1 picks. I believe more than half of the picks are below the Fifth round. Not many studs come from those rounds and besides, did you forget JJ is going to be in charge of drafting? :bang2:

I would rather go with more of a sure thing or experience with a FA at this juncture of Dallas' team then to wish a star on hoping a FS or CB turns into a stud. Dallas has more than enough money to pick both up along with a great OL.

Again, I am not saying only go the FA route, but do both through the draft and FA.

A Guard to replace Riveria like Ben Grubbs or Justin Blalock should be our first priority.

I definitely would take advantage of FA where I could.

The last thing we need is for JJ to reach for a player (i.e., Goodrich, Larrimore, etc., etc.), esp. with BP now gone.

In FA, I would attempt to target

1. Guard to replace Rivera.

2. Back-up quality QB to replace Bledsoe.

3. Either a FS or CB, depending on what we do with Henry OR if we don't get Secondary help in FA, we try to get a OLB/DE type instead.

Finally,

4. We look for some rotation help for Fergy at NT (assuming we're sticking with the 34), if anyone is around. Not a guy who's terribly expensive, but a guy who will do the grunt work. If we can't get anyone at a reasonable price, we can get a guy in the Draft, or maybe Stanley is already the man.

Then, in the Draft

The only real "priority" will be either Secondary help or an OLB/DE type, depending what we can/can't get in FA.

But with only 1 priority in the Draft, we should generally stay out of trouble and not end up drafting for need.

the more i think the more i want watkins to be the fs. henry is broken down. left him be the nickle cb. or just cut him.

FA

Kris Dielman to replace Rivera

Deon Grant to compete w/ Watkins at FS

Draft

BPA all the way, some good CBs, WRs, and OLBs will be there for us in the 1st and 2nd rounds

that's how I would do it

I agree with Montgod about Jerrah running the draft: it frightens me. Let's hope that Jeff Ireland is left alone to do his job. (yeah right) Also-I like Latinmind's pick of Brian Leonard in the 2nd roud, IF he can bulk up some more and really be a quality lead fullback for Jones and Barber

Deon Grant is only 28 and is a good FS

Paul WIlliams will not be available in the 4th IMO

and Brian Leonard in the 2nd? ugh

OLB, CB, and RG are the biggest priorities. I thought Kosier did a good job, and I'm ok with Gurode at center. Rivera was horrible last year. Sometimes, these back injuries just don't heal.

lol im a true fresno state homer having grduated there in 2001. and being raised in the fresno area. but i know when players arent going to be top picks. just like i said williams drops passes he should be making with his talent level. but i think he drops not so much because he bombed, but i think a few WR's passed him up during sr bowl week because they just lit it up. and theres still these underclassmen too. i really think he'd be there in the 4th, and that would be a steal for dallas
