Trade/Draft Scenario with Texans

Hey guys, just wanted to know what you guys think about this scenario.

Hometown Hero Vince Young comes out and gets drafted #1 by the Texans, becoming the new poster boy for Houston based sports.

The Texans make a trade David Carr to the Cowboys for their #1 pick this year.

The Texans go and sign Steve McNair to play mentor for a season or two, grooming their QB of the future while the Boys get theirs in Carr.

What do you think?

Not to be rude.

But it sounds like something that was done on a madden game or in some fantasy football game.

Just sounds far fetched IMO.

Far fetched or not, would you go for it?

I could see Houston taking Young for several reasons. I don't know if they would move Carr but that too could happen. I would offer Ellis, Glover and a draft pick (not a 1st) for Carr in that scenario.

If that was the Texans plan to do at QB, then I would just wait for them to release Carr. He is due an $8 million dollar roster bonus and I believe if Dallas traded for him, they would have to pick up that tab. That is a bit pricey for Carr plus losing a 1st round draft pick. I don't mind giving Carr a shot in Dallas, but not if it costs that much money and a pick.

Didn't Casserly announce today that they are planning on honoring the bonus? That seems like an indicator that they are keeping Carr around this season, although things can always change.

I think that any team who traded for Carr would be open to restructure and extension. That may not be so bad. I think much would depend on what Young's intentions were. All could change if Young declared. Then again, maybe Houston will pull there head out, trade down and draft solid OLs. That would be the smartest move for them, IMO.

Out of curiosity, why would Houston pass up on Reggie Bush just to draft a home state kid, and trade a more experienced QB away? If they don't take Bush they will trade down and fix OL.

Yes, the team could restructure, but would Carr want to restructure? Probably, but it is an unknown. I also would not trade a 1st for Carr at this time. I know he has been in a bad situation in Houston, but he is not worth a 1st. There are some saying that Carr has the same weaknesses as Bledsoe: holds the ball too long, locks onto one receiver, doesn't have a good feel for the pocket, etc.

There are just too many unknowns with Carr because of the horrible o-line in Houston to sacrifice a 1st round pick.

I acutally don't find the idea of them drafting Vince Young far fetched.

One could argue that the mentality to take a Reggie Bush is the Same for taking a Vince Young....the already have a Starting QB and RB and need help on the Oline.

Vince would provide them with a home state product to sell tickets...a mobile QB to tread water until the O-Line is fixed.

I also read somewhere, and I have no clue if it was legit or complete trash, that Reggie bush said he would play anywhere but with the Houston Texans.

Now the part I found Far Fetched is the idea that they would Draft him, then get Steve McNair and then the Cowboys would give them a first round pick for David Carr.

As you know Hos, I believe the smart thing to do is fix the OL as well. However, I'll take a crack. The wild card in this equation is how the new coaching staff and the organization feel about Carr. I do believe that there are only so many hits in anybody. If Houston feels as if Carr has sustained to many, then I could see a trade. If they believe that his confidence is beyond repair in Houston, then I could see this happening. Young is talented and his ability to create would certainly help the OL. A team like Houston might be able to get away with something less then D. Ferguson at LT. I also think it helps in that you don't have to consider another RB. You can keep what you have and with Young added in, have an extemely potent running game. You know Young puts buts in the seats in Houston and it also builds in a good two to three year cushion for the organization as far as fan expectations. There are some upsides to going with a Young in Houston.

Posted something very simular to this in another thread. I agree with your assesment of the situation Josee.

I wonder if the Texans would trade us Carr for the 18th pick, then draft Vince Young first overall.

Huge pressure is being put on them by the fans to draft Vince from what I understand.

But it takes two to tango and Big Bill aint interested...

Isn't there a good chance Carr will be released outright? Why would we trade a first for a guy who hasn't shown much and could conceivably be gotten for free?

I think Carr for a first rounder makes me puke. He isnt worth a first rder, why would anyone in their right mind give up a first rounder for him? This is just disgusting. If we are going to spend a 1st rder on a guy, we need to take a rookie that hasnt been setting the record for sacks taken and underperformed. I'd give up maybe a 5th rd pick tbh.

Carr is not the problem down there; it would be premature to pull the plug. Even Vince Young would get sacked a ton in Houston. Come to think of it, he'd get sacked a lot in Dallas too!
