I would take Glennon..

Personally i wish Leary would just play out this year and be part of a Superbowl run...Two years ago he was arguably one of our best players.

I think it's pretty damn obvious that Collins is going to be a monster...he sees that...but injuries happen all the time...

I understand how he wants to be a starter though.

Bucs are definitely in the market for a guard with Mankins retiring. Not a bad idea. Shores up the backup QB situation for a couple years. Glennon won't be a cheap alternative however.

All considered about Leary...he came into the league on a prayer, because of his knees. He has earned respect, and started a considerable amount. The thing is that his value going forward, has to be on a considered prayer as well. He might be best served in a career now, as a very respected backup role. That role will give him starts again, in today's NFL. But his career could well be a longer one as well.

If you are Leary and his agent, you want one big contract with a nice chunk of guaranteed money so even if your knees fail you are set financially. Playing for year to year short term contracts and looking at a year where you may not play much before becoming an UFA is not ideal.

If Dallas can't get decent compensation though he does provide great depth. It's a case where team needs and player wants might not mesh.

He already has a contract North of $2 million.

I don't want to see him go, but, does Cleveland need a guard?? Because we could use a receiver. Once he's reinstated, of course.

You're not going to get anything of value in terms of a starting player for an OG with a chronic knee condition (because he's a risk to extend). And any backup/role player you'd get needs to be better that what you'd have gotten from Leary + a comp pick. Maybe you could get a backup QB for him from a team that's got no real starter and three QB2s they're deciding between. We're not really thin enough at any other position to justify plugging a hole someplace considering how thin trading Leary away would make us at OG.

I doubt we can get much in terms of an active player but if a trade is done with a draft pick I would take nothing less than a 2nd rd pick. Outside of that Dallas holds the cards since Leary is under contract.

We aren't going to get anything of value but someone us going to give him a comp pick leveraging deal? If his value is low now, why would the possibility of a 7th round comp pick (provided we don't sign players) deter us?

He's going to get a starting OG from somebody who will take the risk.

The chances of it being the same team that has anything of trade interest for us to give him up early are remote.

I don't want anyone's spare parts or worn-down players. I'd rather have the pick. I think Leary is worthy of a third-round pick in a trade. Just wait and let a team get desperate, like the Colts or the Falcons or the Browns. They'll come calling.

Liking Glennon more than anyone we could land at the QB position. Mike's still got real unlocked starting QB potential, IMhumbleO!

That said, I'd keep Leary for insurance from injury along the Oline where Dallas has been relatively lucky of late.

The guy I want from the JAX is Telvin Smith. Hybrid SS/OLB who reminded of me of Darren Woodson when he came out of school, 6'3 220 4.4, great in coverage and hits like a mofo.

Yeah we should've drafted him, a lot of folks here had him in their mocks and they were right.
Wait until someone's starting OG gets a season ending injury and the market for Leary will get favorable. It'll happen, always does, just have to be patient.

For this season? No, he has not. He gets paid weekly just like the other player salaries.

I'm sure he would prefer a $15 million signing bonus on a long term deal.

Unless someone roles up on the back of La'el Collins leg I don't see anyone beating on him to the point of injury. He's gonna be doing the hurting in games.

However, I'll take McCown from the Browns and utilize him as our backup QB. I hear Hue Jackson wants to run the ball and you need good guards to do that.

Leary is too valuable as a rotational guard to trade him. Its a contract year for him. Let him play well this year, sign with someone else next year and Dallas will pick up a decent comp pick for him.

Some team will take a flyer on him for depth. Return value is going to be minimal, most likely.

Keep for depth, take the comp pick especially since they are tradeable now.

I see people post this thought all the time and I just don't get. First, there is no guarantee that his next deal will return a good comp pick and, second, to get the comp pick the team has to sit out free agency. Does anyone really want to sit out free agency next year so we can get that 6th round comp pick for Leary? Keeping him for depth is a solid move until you have a comparable replacement and a real offer on the table but its not because of the comp pick you might eventually get.
