This is the 1st time in 20 years I can honestly say that the Cowboys are building towards a bright future. Please let's not screw that up and trade a ton for 1 guy. Keep adding good young pieces to this core and we have the chance for something special
I agree. We just need to continue to add talent and develop our own. If its a WR then take him. If its a CB then take him. Heck if its a OT or TE then take him. All are needs... or will be a need very very soon. Maybe we don't end up with a stud WDE this year but Its possible Maliek Collins takes the next step and becomes our top pass rusher or David Irving breaks out at LDE by having him fully commit to the position for the offseason and training camp. Everyone is still in win now mode from when Romo was on his last legs as our staring QB it seems.

Not really.
The 1st overall pick has nearly twice the value of the 6th pick, believe it or not. So the price would be so VERY much more than what Atlanta paid--which was already a ton.
It simply isn't happening. If he dropped down to the 6-10 range it could probably be done for around the same price, but 27 to 1 is never going to happen. The value the Browns would get would never match the chart and it would still be too much for a team to want to give up.

Of course he won't be available in the 6-10 range anyways so it's unrealistic from every angle.

Alright alright...I get it, dumb idea. Just looked at some sample dradt charts and didn't realize it cost so much to move up from bottom 1st Rd to top.

Atlanta did something similar a few years ago...

Now, they moved from 27 to 6. We would be moving up even more to pull that off. That's a lot to fork over.

And it took the Falcons six years to get to the Super Bowl giving up all those picks.
I don't think our fan base is that patient.

Don't let posters silence you because they think your thread was dumb. This is the offense season and drafts are all about speculations and alternate scenarios.

I appreciate this thread because it gets us talking and, honestly, I find the responses enlightening because some of the things said I hadn't considered either.

Post on, brother. :)

The price will be far too steep to move up that high. I could see us moving up in the 14-16 range to grab Barnett, though. And I'd be ecstatic if that happens. Barnett is gunna be a great player in this league.

Simple. Trade Romo to Cleveland for the top pick... lol

(Tongue in cheek)

Honestly though, a diamond in the rough is possible. I think Charles Haley was a 4th Rd pick.
It can happen. Maybe the dude with the unpronouncibal name from Villanova can be our guy.
(watching Senior Bowl practice...but I'm one day behind)

Everyone (including me) thinks he will be a top 3 pick. Maybe #1. But players slip. Look where we drafted Dez for example.

I am not so sure Garrett. I may be alone but I do wonder about his desire.

For Cleveland it might be worth it. They sure haven't had any luck using all those high picks

When you think about all these players that are stars.....rarely any of them are 1st overall picks.

Falcons weren't a Julio away from contending. They needed much more than him.
I guess my point is that he's a vital component to the team they now have.
Let's assume the Cowboys execute a similar trade for Myles Garrett. If we win a Super Bowl, fine, then maybe the trade is justified (I say maybe because if we just get one Super Bowl yet our franchise is setback a few years, I don't think fans will think it was justified).
But if we don't or if we have to wait as long as the Falcons did to get to the Super Bowl, I don't think our fans are that patient. There will be endless criticism of such a deal.

Agreed. But, to us old fans a SB win now or soon would mean a lot too. I assume you are a little younger and can afford to wait!! I would love to see a SB before l croak!! ;):).

Dane Brugler is saying Myles Garrett is by far the best player in the draft (5 min 30 sec of the podcast) and clearly Dallas has an obvious need for a stud DE. So I'm just going to come out and be "that guy" and ask it. Would you do a block-buster trade up to no1? I know its risky and people are still scarred with the Mo trade. But if Garrett is that player that everyone makes him out to be, wouldn't it be worth the risk? Dallas would be unstoppable if they had a Von Miller type player. Philly mortgaged a lot and got their QB and early returns have been encouraging. Atlanta did something similar to get Julio Jones and he's definitely been worth the price. However, Bills did the same for Sammy Watkins and that's been a disaster. Just thought it would be something to ponder.
The Cowboys would have to give up something big. Say, Bryant and a pick!?
