Lots of talk about trading up today. Many of the proposals seem way off base. Here's what we could do, going by the traditional trade chart. Yes, the chart is old so you can adjust things up or down a bit. Also keep in mind that this is considered a very deep draft, meaning that:
With our 2nd (47) and 3rd (78),
we could get to the top of the 2nd round (33) and a 4th rounder back
With our 2nd and next year's 2nd,
same deal
2nd, 4th and 5th => 38 or 39
2nd and 4th => 40 or 41
2nd and next year's 3rd => 40 or 41
2nd and 5th => 44 or 45
3rd and next year's 2nd => 51
3rd and 4th => 67 (top of 3rd)
3rd and 5th => 72 or 73
4th and next year's 2nd => 69
- Trades down may be hard to come by
- Trades up may cost a little less than usual (because teams value the extra picks in this year's draft more than they usually do)
- Future picks may have less value than usual (at least future non-1st-round picks)
