We can talk about all the weapons we wish we had, the skilled players, a better QB, a better pass rusher. NONE of this means anything without the help from some big nasty mean guys. These are the guys that get in there and do the dirty work that we need so bad, but it seems like this position is overlooked every off season. We've made strides in picking up OL guys, but we have to better evaluate players, or leave them at the position they played at in college.

On offense and defense, how much would Dak be, or Micah be if we had some guys that could bully people around. The success of this team is dependent upon us building up our trenches, and doing everything possible to allocate resources/PROPER evaluations to make this happen. Please give your thoughts on this

I agree to an extent. I don't think it is necessary to have the best OL and Dl in the league, but you need a good ones. I would start any rebuild there and work out to the skill positions. But I don't think you can win with JAGs at the skill positions either. The trick is to get the most out of the CAP money you have. find the best players that fit under the CAP. When they leave replace them with similar or better players.

The Cowboys knack of downgrading from year to year results in the season we are seeing now.

If I said it that way I didn't mean it, really guys that are PROPERLY evaluated, not guys that have played the position for 1/2 a year and had a good year with 3 Hurries! Give me a guy that's been doing it for a few years who knows the position, and has actually done some good things

The problem is, the guys you want cost more than Jerry is willing to give them. Hence, the mess we have on the DL now. They had a great opportunity to sign a quality DT in free agency this year. There were several on the market. Instead they did nothing and waited until camp was over to sign Linval Joseph who has been less than average so far.

Last 3 drafts the Cowboys drafted Guyton, Beebe, Thomas, Richards, Tyler Smith and Waletzko. All but Waletzko appear to be hits. Not sure why you are suggesting we have to evaluate players better.

And why do we need to leave them at the position they played at in college? Some of the best OL's in Cowboys history played a different position in college.

That's fine, that may be true, but you're putting a lot on a rookie that he may not be ready for in putting him in a position that he wasn't recently playing at

At least Solari will not be a factor after this season. The line needs to be good, not great but greater is better. We go as the oline goes. Please fix this line. Then we can get that 3rd or 5th round back to matter.

I like us signing free agents, but knowing how they are i'm NOT going to say we should be active in the first wave, you're right they're not going to spend that kind of money. I'd rather us get 2 for the price of one big ticket guy, BUT I don't want him to be a linval joseph either

Soon as he's promoted to the OC of this team, you won't be saying all this (the crazy things that happen in Dallas!)

Great OL and OC can make medicocre QB, RB and WR into superstars.

I think we have a coaching problem too. It matters.

How long did it take to realize this. We’ve known this since the 60s.

That's the part I wish Jerry would figure out. The same goes for the defense. If you watch the tough games from the Jimmy era you'll see a lot of less-than-elegant offensive efforts from Troy and the offense. They were grinding and trying to not make big mistakes,,, if your defense sucks then you're forced to walk the high wire and play a low percentage game plan.

Thomas and Richards have as yet proven nothing. I have hopes for them; and frankly Bass more than any of them but the fact is that we are NOT as good as you claim drafting OL. Expecting guyton to start and be good enough WAS A MISTAKE IN EVALUATION. AND a fairly big one.

It is not about solid trenches, it’s about jersey sales and marketing. Defensive tackles aren’t worth the investment.

What exactly is wrong with you??? :flagwave:

uh, no. Flacco and Dilfer and Johnson and Stafford and the rest are NOT superstars. They were GOOD ENOUGH with all the support they had
