Trimming the roster

If Carr drops to 3rd on the depth chart he would be released.

Carr will not be released this year. He's a 12+M cap and deadspace hit this year. Next year he will cost 7+M in dead space. Best to hope he averages more INTs than ever before (4 max) and sets personal records for passes defended.

If they cut Carr right now and carried over the 8m it would save this year they would eliminate the 7.4m in dead money next year.

They would actually be a +600k next year.

I don't think that, respectively, is correct BK. His revenue this year is all dead space should he be cut. See spotrac for his contract details.

IMO, if Vaughan is not ready to be the #2 this season, then it seems unlikely that he will ever develop into a starter.

I hate to be "that guy", but Romo was still a 3rd QB in his second season, wasn't he? Remember Vaughan is from a small school.

Thanks for the roster breakdown, Mick.

We just have too much talent to cut down to 53. Maybe we can petition the league or something.

Because after all, when you have a career back up like Bernadeau and a 3rd round reach like Chaz Green as backups, it's just ridiculous.

Excited to watch the evolution of Geoff Swaim and comforted in knowing Dustin Vaughn has plenty of time to develop thanks to Brandon Weeden.

That was great :lmao:

I'm just excited that Geoff Swaim will be blocking for our ALL-Pro running backs this year.

Sarcasm at its very best mediocrity.

There is not a clear cut answer to that one.

Romo was #2 the first 6 games of his 2nd season (2004). Then they switched to Drew Henson as the #2. In 2005 Romo had clearly surpassed Henson and Romo was the clear cut #2 QB.

If Romo was ahead of Henson at the beginning of 2004 and at the beginning of 2005, then my guess is that he was ahead of Henson in the minds of most coaches for all of 2004 but Jerry had traded a 3rd for Henson and likely pressured Parcells to give Henson a shot in the 2nd half of 2004.

He had a poor camp.

He was injured before the 1st preseason game. How would be really know if he had a good camp. Let me guess, Broaddus claimed he didn't look good. Prior to the 1st preseason game Broaddus claimed that Parnell was terrible in training camp. Then the preseason games started and he dominated.

I've seen Parnell play well at many different times during his career. I've NEVER seen Weems play well whether it be in training camp video or in preseason games.

He didn't play in any preseason games in 2014 so we really have no idea how he looked. His 1st preseason with the Cowboys was 2013 and he was definitely raw back then. He appeared to have very good physical ability, but was just very raw.

It's possible that he didn't develop at all in 2 full seasons since the 2013 training camp, but we as fans have no way to know about that. He must have shown some development to still be on the roster.

Can't keep 7 combined QB and RB. If a back gets hurt you sign one off the street and they will be effective behind this line. They just have to be good enough to get what's blocked.

Considering that two of the four RBs on the roster have serious injury histories , there better be a back-up an. Then there is the underwear thief that could end up in hot water every time he goes shopping. Dunbar sure as heck can't carry the load. All of this has to be considered and planned for.

Please go back to where I said I was probably thinking of 2013.

We as fans have barely seen Weems and that was 2 years ago. Any judgement of what he can or can't do is silly at this point.

Silly? We have barely seen him because he hasn't cut the mustard. The team drafted a tackle in the 3rd round and another in the 7th round (after resigning Doug Free), because they were high on Weems? No.

I didn't say they were high on him. I said that it is silly for a fan to try to evaluate Weems ability when we as fans have barely seen him and that was 2 years ago.

They obviously see Chaz Green as a possibility at both Guard and Tackle. Many of his OTA practice snaps were at Guard. In the 7th round they are just looking for talent when they drafted Gibson. You don't really make need picks in the 7th round.
