That taking a knee was on the kickoff, not a punt, and I'm not sure it was a bad thing.
10 of his teammates were up on the Washington side of the 50 expecting an onsides kick. He had no friends back there...none. Yes, he could have gained another 10 yards, but suppose someone strips him of the ball; now the Skins walk into the end zone for the go-ahead TD with no Cowboys back there to stop them.

It looked weird, and I trust the coaches if it was dumb, but he avoided the worst thing that could happen, and a few more yards weren't going to make any difference.

I think Garrett's comment was in reference to not catching two punts that bounced us way back in our own end.

Switzer was just disappointing yesterday. I give him credit for the first down catch he made but other than that he was not so good.

I'm not suggesting fair catching the ball as the correct course of action. If he was just going to take a knee he should have just let the ball go and take the touch back?

There's a chance that the other team may beat you to the ball before it reaches the endzone.
