Linebacker Jeremiah Trotter has agreed to a one-year contract with his old team, the Philadelphia Eagles, according to the team. Trotter was one of the most inspirational players on the team and he helped lead the Eagles to a Super Bowl appearance. He was released before the '07 season in a move that caused quarterback Donovan McNabb to take a few jabs at management.

Trotter had become a radio personality on the famed WIP in Philly, but now the 32-year-old will see if he has anything left on the football field. At his peak, Trotter was able to blitz up the middle and destroy centers and guards. He was a very physical player, but he had deficiencies in coverage. The Eagles released Trotter because they thought Omar Gaither was ready to take over at middle linebacker. Obviously that plan didn't quite work out.

To make room for Trotter, the Eagles released reserve quarterback Jeff Garcia, who'd been brought in while McNabb was injured and Michael Vick was suspended. The Eagles were going to have to release one of their quarterbacks and Garcia was the obvious choice -- especially after the way Kevin Kolb performed in his starts.

I think the Trotter signing will be well received by Eagles fans. I have no clue how much he has left in the tank. He wasn't moving around that well when the Eagles released him two years ago.

He wasn't playing well when he left so I'm surprised they brought him back.

This is the equivalent of you guys signing Dat Nguyen or us signing Jesse Armstead. Trotter is done and it will be proven. I'm glad that signed him. Makes their defense suck more than it already does

this tells me two things.
one, they are no longer worried about Kolb. two, they are that desperate at linebacker. and perhaps, for some leadership on defense. although, i'm not sure how much he can bring in that area either. especially since he's spent so much time criticizing his newfound teammates on the airwaves.

Please tell me how the Eagles defense sucks, Einstein?

...and if you're going to bring up the Saints game, it wasn't all on them. Costly turnovers from the offense and special teams were the difference, in that game.

BTW, I like the signing. It does provide veteran leadership, on a defense, that needs it.

This was a move that I completely didn't expect. As far as the poster who commented about the Eagles defensive performance against the Saints; he has a point. But he didn't take into consideration how well the same defense played (at full strength) in their opening game, or against the Kansas City Chiefs. A good defense plays well against all opponents unless they have key personnel who are injured.

I like the Trotter acquisition because it not only adds depth and leadership with a veterans voice (and Trotter knows how to Get a team fired up), But Trotter is a Jim Johnson coached LB ...he'll give it all he's got, with his blood, sweat and tears ...for the gipper!

We'll soon find out how effective LB by committee is in a few more games; the bye week will give Trotter a chance to catch up with some nuiances in the Eagles defensive play book.

The Eagles defense doesn't suck, but they're obviously hurting at linebacker for them to go this route.

This is a desperation move. Yes he might provide leadership but he's not going to provide any help in actually playing. He wasn't playing good, at all, when he last played and that was what two years ago now?

I can bring up the Saints game. They pretty had their way against your defense. The Buffalo Bills held that "unstoppable" offense in check all the way to the 4th qtr yet the Eagles couldn't even hold them under 40. And you guys let Reggie Bush go off? Who does that anymore? Who cares how they got those points, 48 points is 48 points. If your team's defense was all that, they wouldn't be bringing in players who haven't seen any action in two seasons. Just face it, it was a desperation move.

Exactly. He was just about done when he left and it will be proven that he is garbage now. I can't wait till we play them

You know Better than to compare how a defense plays against any other opponent team than the one you are playing ...sure, that makes plenty of sense. Otherwise instead of watching film on the team You're about to play, teams would watch film on the last game they played to prepare for a completely different strategy - no one does that!

Let's talk specifics for a moment. You sound like a reasonably intelligent Giants fan ...if you're trying to support an argument that the Eagles defense will be worthless against an Eli Manning lead Giants offense; based on their performance against the Saints ...you're full of bull sheezy! Now don't get me wrong ...the Giants may very well have their way just like the Saints did (are you still following me on this?), but I guarantee you, it won't be on the same mistakes that were made in that Saints game. BTW, hopefully McNabb, Westbrook, Jackson, and yes ...possibly Vick may provide some collateral damage that will slam your comparison concept right out the window! Otherwise, I'd like to strongly suggest that the Giants offense study Film on the Eagles defense when they played the Saints to determine your offensive strategy for that upcoming game.

And you know this how? Eagles are not known for keeping old players out of the goodness of their heart...and more importantly, he passed the physical. I'm willing to see what he has left...plus the added bonus of his leadership in the locker room. There's little risk and lots to gain if this signing works out.

I may still have questions on which defense is legit...weeks 1 & 3 vs week 2....however, they HARDLY suck.

By the looks of today's game, you look like you're struggling against the pathetic Chiefs! We at least clearly dominated them in the 1st quarter and never looked back. You guys still have red zone issues, FG misses and your "rocking" defense is hardly the "greatest defense evaaaaah in the NFL"

LMAO! Sharick is just trying to bait you. He's lousy at it too :)

I hope Trott knows what he's doing, for his own sake. Besides, they worked him out twice and he passed the physical...they obviously know more than rival fans LOL.
