Good question. That would be a question to ask someone who had seen a lot of film and/or followed him for awhile.

I thought he was going to be a very good NFL WR. Another instance where I've been wrong so far at least.

i think he is definetely worth a look if you ask me , he is also a very good kick and punt returner so he could also help our special teams

It's a bit late to evaluate someone. Didn't Troy go to Pittsburg out of the draft? If that's true then he's been cut twice now. That's not a good sign for a former number one pick.

If we had no one after #3 I would think it more plausible. But I'd personally like to get a chance to evaluate Morgan, Crowder, and Cooper.

I guess it depends again on what someone here thinks about Troy. He'd have to have a fan here IMO.

I was impressed with him last year.

I would certainly be interested.

I don't remember who it was but, on the old Cowboys.net forum there was a poster who had a good friend who was a scout on the Jags. Is he still around? Anyone remember who that was?

Wasn't Edwards a guy we really liked in the draft the year he came out? I seem to remember him making a comment regarding Ismail after a Valley Ranch visit.

Not sure that matters though...when he was released by Pittsburgh, did we simply pass on him in free agency or did Jacksonville claim him off waivers before we got a chance? He had 50 catches last year, which ain't bad for a backup guy.

Why not pick this guy up? He is already better than Morgan and Copper combined and he plays special teams to boot. Any way to upgrade this offense is a must if all it costs is the vet minimum. Sign him up Jerry!

This argument has to win the award for most idiotic. You must have missed his 50 receptions last season which is far more than Morgan and Copper combined. He also plays special teams which Morgan doesn't do well. PLEASE, make a somewhat intelligent argument next time. ;)

Edwards has some ability, but I don't think he's a good fit for the Boys... he's a possession-type receiver (despite his size, that's what he is), not a burner... if the Boys bring in another wideout, they need more SPEED... Crayton and Keyshawn can handle the possession receiver chores, with more than a little help from Jason Witten...

Good point Bear, but can he catch better than Morgan? To me, a 4th WR needs to reliably catch the ball when it is thrown to him. Morgan seems to drop as many as he catches which is what kills our drives. As crazy as Bryant was, he usually caught the few balls thrown his way.

Thanks for the insightful post Silverbear. My initial thought was that he would be a decent pickup, but you are probably right that they would like to have a guy that can get deep.

Troy Edwards has been a huge disappointment since he's been in this league. No thanks.

Jacksonville Jaguars: Six-year veteran wide receiver Troy Edwards, who started 15 games for the Jaguars over the past two seasons, was released Sunday, despite having been the club's second-leading pass-catcher in 2004.

Edwards, 28, appeared only sparingly in the preseason and last week went public about his lack of playing time. It appears Edwards was victimized by the development of the Jags' younger wide receivers. Jacksonville used its first-round choices in each of the last two years on wide receivers, Reggie Williams in 2004 and Matt Jones this year. The staff is also high on second-year wideout Ernest Wilford and rookie Chad Owens.

A first-round choice of the Steelers in the 1999 draft, Edwards has bounced around during his career. After playing with the Steelers (1999-2001) and St. Louis ('02), he signed with Jacksonville early in the 2003 season. In two seasons with the team, he played in 29 games, with 15 starts, and had 85 catches for 1,020 yards and four scores. Last season, Edwards had 50 receptions for 533 yards and one touchdown.

In six seasons, the former Louisiana Tech standout has 201 receptions for 2,389 yards and 11 touchdowns. Edwards has played in 89 games and started 22 times.
