It's early yet but smart play might well prove to be a sound way to enter a new era.

Could it also be that good morale serves to breed positive results? We'll soon see.
There is no doubt that DAKs play is bringing out the best teamwise.

This is a serious development in the right direction.

If the team forces Romo back into the lineup..

there is a real possibility the team regresses.

The coaches need to take a poll of the coaches about the change before it happens becuz they will be responsible for the results.

I imagine you've heard, as I have, that Jerry has already stated that he intends to see Romo back in action ASAP. The popular belief among those said to be in the know is that it will be after the bye week, or at least, thereabouts.

It's being said he wants to justify spending the multi millions that he did to sign Romo to a contract extension. If so, it should be interesting to see how the team reacts to TR's return if, indeed, it's in the cards.

In any case, Dak is surely exceeding expectations in grand style until then. Let's just hope things work out for the best in the meantime. At least, we're winning for the time being -- things could easily be considerably worse . . . I'm thinking I'll just relax and enjoy it for as long as it lasts.

that Troy said the Cowboys before today's game..

were the third least penalized team in the league.

That was an eye opener to me.

We have constantly lead the NFL with penalties and killed more drives and extended more drives for other teams before this season.

What a positive impact that is doing for us now.

Comments?

Probably because we get up to the line and snap, the football most of the time instead of waiting till the last minute.

We get nowhere near the QB so there's no danger of getting penalized for roughing the passer or personal fouls for touching the QB.

It's almost an unfair advantage for Dallas.

Is there any way we can spin this into not giving Jason Garrett any credit? I'd feel more comfortable with this.

They are not getting penalties because they are playing like robots. Penalties shows passion for the game, which we completely lack under that puppet Garrett. Also Jerry Jones is an egomaniac.

(that should cover it right?)

I looked at footballdb.com for the penalty breakdown to get a sense of what improved. The improvement isn't that dramatic**.

http://www.footballdb.com/stats/penalties.html?yr=2016

2014 had 4 more penalties for 31 more yards and there was no more than a +-2 variance for each penalty type. We had 2 more pass interference penalties and 2 more unnecessary roughness penalties in 2014. It does feel like our DBs are playing much better though and we did change CB coaches.

The biggest improvement is we have no penalties in 7 out of 13 categories through 4 games. in 2015 it was 3 out of 13. In 2014, it was 4 out of 13.

You might think (like me) that 2015 would be a different story due to the instability (and ability) at QB but the variance was also limited to +-2.

**It's not apples to apples. I'm averaging out the full seasons to four games to compare to the first four games of 2016, but early games are working in new players, new coaches, new things in the playbook, etc. It's plausible that early games see more penalties than later games. Also, some penalties are not regular occurrences and don't lend themselves to averaging.
