Trying to get through my work day in pain

I had a stressful week last week which seems to have reactivated my old sports injury. I work on the weekends and am struggling to get through the work day with a ton of back pain. I got weekly massages when I lived in Idaho. I found a newbie who gave good quality Swedish massages for just $35. It's more expensive here in Omaha. It's around $60 here. I'm just going to have to pony up the bucks for a deep-tissue massage. My pain pills only take the edge off. Maybe I'll also try the local massage school. Sometimes students are good at massages.

Man, pain makes it tougher to get through the work day. Anyway, wish me luck in getting through it. I'll appreciate pain-free days more when I get them back. I prefer to not go home sick if I can possibly avoid it, so I'll tough it out. Prayers appreciated.

For starters, prayers are being said for you. I kind of cringed when you stated you were taking pain killers. Without getting into it, have you tried a chiropractor? They are better then a massage therapist. They are trained physicians & know exactly how to relieve the pain via massage. Most insurances cover the visits pending their plan. I know exactly what you're going through. Old sports injuries come out to haunt us in our older years. Best wishes....

Ever invest in teeter table/inversion table?

Saved me from the days you are having.

Many thanks to everyone for your prayers and support yesterday. The back pain has lessened today, though it's still there. I'm looking into finding a massage therapist and maybe also a chiropractor and then taking up yoga.

I hurt my L5 and it has been causing my left lower leg to tingle and feel numb. A chiropractor fixed me up a couple of years ago, it aggravated it a few months ago and tried medication and stretching, didn't help much. Been doing the Cairo and acupuncture the last couple of weeks, seems to be helping. Almost back to normal. Aleve and calcium supplement the last two weeks. Good luck.

Thanks. Acupuncture helped some with my migraines, but never really helped with my back pain. Massage therapy and chiropractic have helped with my back pain, but I usually can't afford both. It's usually one or the other, so I have to choose. I need to marry a massage therapist.

A couple years ago I had a procedure done known as a rhizotomy, which deadened the firing nerves. It helped a lot until recently when they started firing again. I iced it up last night too, and that helped some. I'll find some help.

And it does help to have good people pulling for you, so thanks once again to everyone who has written and/or prayed.

I was going to buy or build one,but I bought that select comfort air pressure bed And started employing those $28 'happy feet' insoles in my boots(and quit doing grunt/ mule work helped BUNCHES)

Coach mentioned acupuncture the other day there Rev.Conehead!
I've been so down in the back I'd have to crawl on my hands and knees over to my work boots in the mornings, sometimes (no joke.)
I had a chiropractor up in Oracle Az. That guy made me feel like I could attempt doing a cartwheel after paying him(for a day anyway,,, maybe)
I stuff a small pillow behind my lower back on long drives sometimes, still.

Have you tried an MRI?

Seriously. If you have that much pain then it could be something that no massage therapist or chiro can remedy.
I had that MRI done at around age 45, the doctor told me I better find a desk job like a computer system guy( yeah, right!) Or, they were gonna take bone chips from my hip-bone and fuse wedges into two of my lower vertebrae to stop the pinch/ pain

I find a ball pein hammer to your big toe will take your mind off your back pain. o_O

LOL, maybe not such a great idea. I did put two tennis balls in a sock and I laid down on them to self-massage my back. It helped to loosen it up a lot. I still have pain today, but it's less than yesterday.

Gave up drinking alcohol some years back. Sometimes I miss it, but life is better overall without it.

Your definitely of stronger stuff than I, Reverend.
I've done those 3-4 week dry-out clinics (x3)
In the summer of my days, I always had a problem with " powerless over alcohol " bit, they preach, luckily I came to terms with myself and choose when or when not to drink,,,needless to say I spend a good amount of time on the couch at home ,not in the public loop, drinking beer.

I never did any kind of 12-step program or rehab or anything. It was just a case of, "This is messing up my life and I need to stop." So I did. I was a big fan of imported beers, but it was in my best interests to give them up. I don't tell other people what to do, though. I'm not against alcohol. I just don't use it myself.

I got a real good excuse as to reasons of my absence/ tardiness in the cyber-hug
Reverend!
This is a family board/ forum so I shall not illustrate in further details.

( but I'm $100 dollars lighter and enjoyed about 3-4 hours of quality time company.)
