-- I wonder how the secondary is being coached differently now than they have the last several years under Zimmer. Think about it, it has to be better. I'm curious as to what Wade means when he says Reeves is using his speed better now, but it leads me to believe that these players are learning things now that they've never been taught before.

-- Does everyone remember that we haven't had all our weapons together on offense all preseason? Glenn has been out the whole time, but at least a couple other important players have been out, too: Flozell, Colombo, Hoyte, Fasano. Don't let the last couple practice games make you forget how improved Fasano looks.

-- I really feel that Wade liked what he saw during "Broncos Week" of practice and play against a pretty good, well-coached team, and pulled back a little from then on. IMO he seems pretty confident in his team, judging by his PC yesterday.

-- I think Glenn, Burnett, maybe Newman, and maybe even Ellis will play Sunday. Just a feeling... Although Nate Newton said he thinks Newman won't play. But I believe our thinking has been skewed a bit by four years of the way Parcells handled injuries. Wade is going to do his best to keep these guys ready for the actual games, and like other coaches do, maybe try to play a little poker with who might actually play. I keep thinking of Stroud and Peterson playing well against us last year when they were listed as doubtful, and Jax writers were saying just a couple of days before that there was no way they would be able to play in that game.

-- Patrick Crayton was on 103.3 last hour and he sounds extremely pumped up and ready to go. There doesn't seem to be a lot of trepidation and worrying from the players -- it's anticipation and excitement, all in a positive sense. BTW, he said Reeves and Jones have extremely high motors, even in practice.

-- If you find yourself worrying about our corners, just remember one thing: Demarcus Ware vs. David Diehl. The DPOY campaign starts Sunday in front of a national audience.

-- And if you favor offense, think of T.O. vs. the Giants corners. They aren't any good.

-- It's time to get pumped, fellas (and ladies). We haven't seen our real team yet. Sunday we will, and with a home Sunday night crowd behind us. I really believe there will be a lot more optimists here Monday morning than there are today. :)

I usually don't get involved in the rah-rah threads, as it's good to get fired up about your team and all that, BUT... I think that if you heard a player that was timid and worried come week freakin' 1, he's probably in the wrong career field. Just my thought...

Great post cl.

I am so excited I cant put into words. I have basically rewatched every cowboys-giants game for the last 4 years over the last couple of days.

I am expecting the crowd to be emotional, loud and on their feet all night. We dont like the giants, people boo manning like crazy and everyone hates scumbag number 1 himself jeremy shockey.

I can not wait to get to the stadium. My wife has been laughing at me for days telling me she is going to buy me a tackling dummy!!

I am going to be a nervous wreck come sunday morning, the eagles packers and Commanders dolphins should be a good start to the day.

anyway, sorry for rambling. I think ellis is going to play, newman will play in that dime package and burnett will sit this one out.

also, I fully expect the giants to play max protect and use a power running game to their right attacking spears and spencer for most of the game. I have faith in reeves or jones to hang with Smith, moss or mix in the slot.

Shockey, Toomer and burress are good players and they will make plays we just have to keep them in check.

Also on a side note, I think one thing that will not get much play before the game is special teams. I think we are going to kick their tails in field position and that could be huge.

I understand your hope for the secondary. While people are over Jones' "robot" comments, no one can argue that Zimmer was anal retentive when it came to details regarding technique with defensive players. It didn't matter if a player made a play but used what Zimmer deemed as proper technique.

The combined Parcells/Zimmer defense relied on perfect execution on every play to succeed. Phillips allows players to make mistakes as long as they use their physical abilities to compensate. I can therefore see where Phillips believes that Reeves will now be able to use his speed more.

People sometimes get on Newman's lack of INTs. Under Zimmer/Parcells, the idea was tight coverage every time. If Newman attempted to "bait" a QB by giving a window then closing it, I really believe that he'd have seen some time on the sidelines. Phillips seems to believe that making a huge play is worth giving up a few medium plays. Phillips' defenses have never been the D'Angelo Hall give up five TDs gambling to make Sportscenter type but I do believe that he'll give a lot more leeway to all the defenders.

I'm excited thinking about isolating Kiwanuka in the passing game on a TE and running at him in general.

Our O-Line will maul their D-Line to dust! TO and Glenn on the outside, Witten down the middle of field! Defense playing with a lead, little Manning is about to meet a human nightmare name DWARE!

Regarding the secondary, my thinking is along the line of Spadowski's. I think the corners are being taught to be more aggressive, disrupt routes and and jump routes. It sounds like they had to coach Reeves to be more aggressive. He was too worried about giving up the big play to make a play.

I tend to agree on your hypothesis about the Bronco game. I think we showed more in that game particularly on defense than the other games. However, I'm certain that the Texans game was still a big surprise.

Yeah, Ware is going to be huge this game. We really need him to step up. I think we will really attack Manning this game.

I hope you are right but Strahan schooled Colombo big time last year.

As for the secondary, I dont think its possible for them to give up more big plays then they did at the end of last season. Having Hamlin back there gives me confidence that someone will be in position to help out over the top.
