lots of teams out there need a RB....and Turner seems like a #1 type back...

Houston - pass on Bush and sign Dayne....CLASSIC
Cleveland - droughns would make a great backup
Oakland - i can't believe they gave Lamont all that money
NY Jets - they have a nice stable, but no true #1
NY Giants - no more Tiki
Carolina - can Foster ever stay healthy
Philadelphia - Westbrook is a great Meggett type...but they need a true #1
Green Bay - Green is old and near the end of the line
Detroit - same issue as Carolina.....can they keep Jones healthy
Baltimore - Lewis is wearing down and they let Chester Taylor leave last year

now how about this scenario....

What if we traded Jones to one of these teams for a 2nd or 3rd round pick......and also signed Michael Turner?

If Turner is so much better than Jones, why wouldn't one of these other teams just sign him instead?

i agree.....i was just doing the what if scenario

we also have to look at finances...Jones will probably come cheaper...and a 3rd round pick isnt always a guarantee.....

BTW, werent they in the same draft together?

didnt it go

jackson
jones
turner

I wanted Turner the entire time cause for some reason, i really get enamored by the small school prospects.

Or your enamored by players that produce coming off the bench. Defenses were so relieved to see Tomlinson coming out of the game that they overlooked Turner. ;)

I'd rather draft Michael Bush in the 2nd or 3rd. he's 6'3" or so and goes about 240 lbs and looks to be very fast. I was drooling over him in the Louisville opener when he broke his leg...

Turner will almost certainly carry a first round price tag, perhaps even a first and a third... I really liked the guy when he came out of college, but that's too high a price...

I wanna see what Julius can do out from under Parcells' influence, anyway... don't want to be too quick to give up on a back who just might have 1500 yard potential...

I think Philly needs a compliment back, not a different #1. Weather or not Westbrook is a traditional #1 you can debate, but the guy is an every down player. Look at the impact he has in games.

He'll be a restricted free agent. Any team that signs him will have to give up good $$$ as well as a 1st rounder.

i forgot about Turner being a RFA....that does complicate things now doesnt it. I guess he is staying in SD at least one more year....

one of my best friends is also high on Michael Bush.....he wants us to get Bush in the second round if he is still there when we pick. I would not be opposed to this. Bush is a big fella and has great speed for his size. However, if I bud has his way....Peterson would fall like Randy Moss and Dallas would get him at 22...I on the other hand do not want Peterson at all...he is injury prone.

I agree. As much as I don't like to say it, the guy is a great RB.

Signing a guy like Turner as a #1 could be a HUGE mistake for a team.

The guy has been effective but we are talking about being effective over 157 carries TOTAL in three years.

His numbers get a HUGE boost from backing up LT. He gets teams that LT has already beaten down -- 71% of his career carries are in the 2nd half with 50% of them being in the 4th quarter. He has a total of 26 carries when the team is behind or tied but 43 carries (about 27% total) when SD has a lead of >15 points.

Here's a guy who comes in when SD has a lead and the D is worn down. He's a good garbage time back but hasn't shown much else.

I think man boobs had a thing for some players and detested (for whatever reason) others. Julius could never satisfy the fat one.

For Julius this will be a fresh start and he'll do wonderfully. Without Parcells.

By that logic, Marion Barber must not project to being a starter -- b/c if Julius wasn't satisfying Bill, you'd expect that he'd replace him as starter .... if there was someone who could do the job.

Turner is a good back guys. He's had to play second fiddle to the best player in the NFL since he came in. It doesn't matter where the kid was drafted, he's a player. Someone is going to pony up for him, and they're going to get a damn solid back.

He never was above board enough to promote MB as the starter yet went to MB most of the time during the middle of the season.
While I admire MB's skills, we were told JJ was being rested while MB carried the load. And I don't recall anytime in fat boys career when he "rested" a player for that long.
Both running backs are talented with plenty of skills. If given the ball consistently, JJ, in the long haul will become the star of the two while MB would be invaluable in goal-line runs and as a slammin' up-the-middle back.

Our one-two punch of JJ and MBIII, if properly used, would be something to behold.

And who did he go to almost exclusively in the most important game of the season?

I thought this thread was about Norv when I saw the title...

But I think you can pretty much forget RFAs. There seems to be some near-collusion going on, just like when Parcells scolded Payton for going after Keith Davis.
