@toddarcher Q: Chances/thoughts on Coleman, Bishop, Whaley making 2015 DT roster depth? #CowboysMail

— CowboysYapp (@CowboysYapp) January 23, 2015 @toddarcher: All three? Not good. Davon Coleman has yet to re-sign with the Cowboys and I'm told he's considering other options. I don't know what they could be, but it's certainly within his right to do that after spending most of the year on the practice squad.

Wonder what this could mean. If it were anither team, you'd think he'd just sign. Maybe another league?

Bums me out, both because he's a Sun Devil and because he's a young 3 with a quick first step. I liked him in camp and preseason.

It's always interesting when a rookie FA can walk on and contribute to a rotation. I prefer those guys to journeyman veterans, generally.

The Cowboys would be wise to seek better options than Coleman, Bishop and all the other fringe players. These are not the players that are going to take this defense to the next level. I agree with RS, this is the old Nagy/Costa chatter......

What's it going to be then, eh?

Why the angst over a player that could not get on the field?

He was unreliable, and we chose to move on.

It was not like he showed special qualities that we choose to ignore.

The "something" might be his willingness to gut out injury and play.

And if he failed at that, well, happy trails.

Way too much credit for the fringe players you are right. Hopefully, we have raised the bar above if-they-breathe-and-try-hard.

becuse its great when these guys go on to become stars.
Or maybe we shouldnt of bothered with the other guys we have seen progress into stars.shuld of cut romo?austin?ratliff?how many others?
When the coaches say they see something in a player its great to watch them grow and develope.Sometimes it works out, more often than not it does not but it sure is great when it does.
And like some1 else said in an earlier post-its great having these young hungry bucks fghting it out at the bottom of the depth chart than old vets

He's a scrub. Bishop is better that's why he was activated over coleman. Not everything is complicated.

No, it's probably an agent in the mix screwing things up or he got crossways with the coaches and is now butt hurt.

It the time of year to assemble the 90 man roster. Each player represents a probability. Coleman had the physical makeup such that he had a reasonable probably of making the team and contributing.

You can't have 90 Dez Bryant type players on the the roster.

It would be "free" to re-sign Coleman as there is no draft pick required and he is does not make the team his contract is not guaranteed.

The team has to focus on the roster from #1 to #90. Their only goal can't be to get a guaranteed dominant player like Suh and they only have one 1st round pick.

They ended the season with 53 players on the roster and several are not under contract. They need to put together the best possible 90 man roster. If they just blow that off, then you never end up with players like Romo.

Well the good part is that the offense is set and we don't have to worry anymore. Now they only have to focus on the defense. They also have defensive guru handling the defense that knows what his doing rather than some disorganized overweight guy. Best thing is that the FO is willing to pay for someone that can rush the passer.

I can't wait to see how this defense comes about with the proper coaching and personnel. Its gonna spell big trouble for the league when we finally have a defense that can match up with the likes of Seattle or San Fran.

Yes, but the team shouldn't look at it from that perspective, especially with regards to the 90 man roster. A key injury and offense could quickly become a problem. They need to continue attempting to add depth and talent everywhere.

Obviously a pass rusher is a top need, but if a super talented offensive player falls in their lap, then take him. What if Martin had been off the board last year but Odell Beckham Jr. was still available? I would have drafted him. If an OBJ clone is available in this draft then I might draft him also, depending on who else is available.

HE cant do this to us, We need him, hes so special, and makes all the right plays and always around the ball, If hes not resigned, what will happen to chemistry? The teams chemistry is focal right now, or our identity, what if he takes our identity? What if he gives it to another team? How did we get to 12-4 without identity or momentum or everything else? WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY

Brent, Crawford, Bishop, McClain, and Okoye are already here under contract. I was impressed by Coleman's first step but he did not progress as well as Bishop over the course of the year as evidenced by the late season call ups. Likely he wants to enter a less crowded squad with an easier roster spot to be had coming in. Fi we draft someone it would put him as a longshot to make this squad especially.

Really? Because I remember those very same things being said about Romo and Austin and a couple of others. Yes it's true that not a lot of UDFA pan out but you can't just say out of hand that they are not going to turn into something. Bishop flat out dominated his level of competition and Coleman, as someone else said, has a phenomenal first step. These guys might still turn out to be something and by the by, Bishop has a really good game against green bay. . . just sayin.

I agree. Not all 'fringe' players are created the same. Coleman was raw and learning moves. He also needed to get stronger in his base. His upside is that he may master the moves and improve his power through weight training. Young prospects don't belong in the same category as other fringe guys who are not likely to improve like Hayden.

Good problem to have and we don't need to bring back Hayden. Here is to hoping they do not.

You seek and take what the structure of FA and the draft allow. That frame work means low draft picks and UDFA are part of those limited resources.. Sorry to talk to you like you don't comprehend that but its simple.
