Not sure anyones NFL coaching star has ever burned brighter and then died so quickly. He went from 1-15 to two straight titles to wallow in mediocrity in Miami to out of the league all in less than 10 years.

Yea he burned out quickly. Should of retired after 1998 when he admitted his heart wasn't in it anymore. Would of avoided that 62-7 beatdown the following year.

But, he had an epiphany of sorts after his mother died and well, I can't blame him for looking at the bigger picture of life.

Its called a rebuilding year and he did not "wallow in mediocrity" in Miami.

He built their defense into the top ranked unit in the NFL at a time Jerry was finding nothing on draft day. Not Jimmy's fault marino was fading and the owner wouldn't let him make a change at QB.
