Twitter mailbag: Matt Forte for the short term would be good
http://espn.go.com/blog/dallas-cowb...g-matt-forte-for-the-short-term-would-be-good

@toddarcher
: Since I can't see Lance Dunbar getting anything more than a one-year, make-good deal coming off a knee injury in 2015, there is no comparison between the money he and Forte will get. Forte is a proven 1,000-yard back and Dunbar, well, isn't. But he has value to the Cowboys provided he's healthy. I'd be OK with the Cowboys going after Forte. Would something like two years, $11 million work? There will be other teams coming after him too. Many mention the New England Patriots as a possibility. They've done well with veteran backs over the years from Antowain Smith to Corey Dillon. The Cowboys should be attractive to Forte -- and any free-agent back, really -- because of the offensive line. Would that be a big enough lure? Well, it will always come down to cash...

...@toddarcher: Bill Barnwell put adding Morris in his list of moves the Cowboys should make in the offseason. I don't hate it, but I can't say I like it either. Morris' stats have declined every year he has been in the league. Now, I didn't expect him to keep up the 1,600-yard pace he showed as a rookie but he only reached 751 yards last year. Is that all his fault? No, but he didn't look like the same back. I'd rather have Forte on a short-term deal at this point than Morris. Last year the Cowboys showed they were not going to go overboard for a back they loved and knew in DeMarco Murray. I have a difficult time seeing them going overboard for a runner they don't know and might not love. If they do, then that would be acknowledging the mistake they made last year in letting Murray walk...

I think he would be great here if dallas can get him for a decent price. He's the only big name rb I can see dallas going after.

Forte will go to a team is close to going to a superbowl and winning it.

Christ, son...disappointment in the past, ends with the season conclusion.

Throw out unproductive emotions, and start digging in for changes. They are coming also...but don't brow beat everyone on sight for fear of the sky's falling all the time.

I get it, you are a complainer and disillusioned...but I don't buy a perenial:

The NFL is moving more and more to a young mans game so adding a well worn NFL thirty year old back doesn't make a lot of sense to me, start Mcfadden, resign Dunbar, draft a young running back in the third round makes more sense..

Moving more and more...really? Without developed team experience, which takes a significant number of older players, a team just doesn't jell and can be exploited regularly.

Please, the most interchangeable position in Football is at running back, learning to pick up a blitz being their biggest recognition....see rookie backs starting last season.....See the Rams or take a look around the league this week and see all those so called developed team experience getting cut.....a near thirty one year old back with not much tread left on those tires when the season starts isn't the answer...

Exactly. Then we'd be right back at square one, looking for a RB in a year, or two. WE need to draft a RB.

Now show us all the stats of all the drafted backs from the past two seasons, and then show us all the statistics for Forte...

I'll just wait until I even consider your lame for blame...due to an irreversable youthful requirement. (I won't be holding my breath here...as there won't be the work to present, JUST THE FACTS)

Matt Forte could be our next Eddie George.............no thanks.......

I guess you would also have thrown out Emmitt Smith at age thirty also, right?

I'd be OK with it on a short term deal. Then also draft a guy in the 4th round like a Prosise or maybe Howard from Indiana.

Just to add a touch on the running back situation. Dallas needs a running back that can better exploit an area blocking scheme, that this offensive line blocks top shelf. That can be achieved in free agency and up to the third round area in the draft.

Forte meets this requirement very well. He is a proven addition and is fully functional on third downs. With some questions still lingering on Dunbar, Forte would be a great pairing with McFadden.

Talk about cherry picking, you just compared Emmitt to Forte??? hahahahahahaha

They both were over the 30 line and both were still very productive. What, you need glasses? Or the integrity not to toss around insulting based comments?

Never mind, you seek cheap thrills and should change fruit.
