Two back system the Cowboys and many other teams have.

I remeber John Madden use to say, "When you have two running backs then that means you don't have one".

Do you think the Cowboys are held back because you will probably always need a complimentary player to go along with Marion Barber?

There was chatter on the boards that the Cowboys could fetch a 1st and 3rd round draft pick for Marion Barber.

I wounder if you could acquire those picks and go after a guy in the Draft that can be an every down back.

Thoughts?

A little of both, I guess.

The nice part is, it keeps both backs fresh (especially later in the season). And it doesn't give the defense an opportunity to become adjusted to one particular runner. Fresh runners over a defense; advantage offense.

But the problem I have with it; is can we ever get a RB truly into rhythm?

I am hoping that the plan has been to do what the Colts did last year. They split time with Addai and Rhodes all season, and then when the year was wrapping up, they went to Addai and rode him all the way. If we don't do that with Marion, I have to assume our coaching staff has a learning disability.

Man one can only hope and pray they split carries all year to save Barber for the post season..

Didn't Madden also say this?

“You see, Troy [Aikman] wears those contact lenses, so he can see better.”

I love Barber, but if he fetches a 1st and 3rd then you have to let him go...especially when it only takes a 3rd to get Randy Moss. I have to think that "chatter" would have to be unfounded.

Norm was saying yesterday, that he believes the Cowboys will be looking for 2 RB's in the offseason, he likes a rotation with Barber as it allows him to run that hard knowing he's only getting 20 carries and the other back will be insurance, because like he said if JJ or Barber go down do we trust TT?.

It's not really "chatter" per se. Barber is a RFA. If we tender him at the highest level (rather than extending him), the cost to another team is a 1st and a 3rd. We'd then have the right to match.

That's where the 1st and 3rd comes from anyway.
