Two players that should make this team and two that should go:

Bubble Players that DESERVE to make the team:

Matt Stewart: Steady, intelligent player and a sure tackler.

Derrick Robinson: Hungry player with tremendous upside.... flashes every game, but must play smarter. I think he's got something to offer if we're a bit patient.

Bubble Player that should go as quickly as the more obvious choices:

Pat McQuistan: Immobile and weak.

Montre Holland: the last player I have making the team. Versatility keeps him.

I'd like to see Robinson on the practice squad, I think he has promise but needs some refinement... I'd like to see McQuistan gone, but I don't think it'll happen... I don't know about Stewart's prospects, I can't get a real good read on what the coaches think about him... and I think Holland sticks... Free (in spite of that bad effort that led to Kitna's "interception"), Holland and Preston will be the top reserve offensive linemen this year, IMO... the 9th lineman that I'd keep would be Gibbons, but again, I expect it'll be McQ...

I've liked Robinson whenever I've seen him play too, but he's already 27 years old.

I think Doug Free , Courtney Brown and #54 are horrible and I do not see for any reason why the first 2 should make this team

I really liked that Carpenter Kid...not the 1st round bust, the QB Carpenter. I liked how he kept his pose and moved around in the pocket. Stash him on the practice squad.

I also like Manny Johnson. He has something about him. PS

Get rid of Brown forever. Get rid of Stanback forever.

And yet, they both will...

Age shouldn't be a factor in selecting the 50-53rd player on your roster. In fact, your return for a short-term player (assuming that his replacement will be drafted to upgrade next spring...) might be extremely high quality as you have a more mature athlete (but not old) going against younger players, if anything he's definitely showed that his main asset IS his quickness.

I think he's a perfect fit for Wade's gap attack defense, and he's fairly stout vs the run.

This guy SHOULD make this team ahead of Dixon and has played on near-par with Hatcher and Bowen this pre-season, IMO. Keep him on the 53 and PS Dixon if anything.

I missed the first quarter of the game. Did something happen to point Free's arrow down that I don't know about?

One really bad play, he let Robinson by him clean, on the strip that led to Kitna's "interception"... but that was the only bad play I noticed...

A play that wouldn't have happened if McQuistan hadn't held on Tashard Choice's big run of the night, which took the ball down inside the 5...

There's no "if", it did happen. I understand that Robison is a solid player and all, but a tackle that's one player away from starting can't be letting guys come by clean. I now know why they don't haven't trusted Free to do more than he has and why Leonard Davis has been getting reps at LT.

Thanks, SB. Not what I wanted to hear about Free, but I'll record and watch the first quarter tomorrow and take a look.

Separately, the damn OL penalties just drive me nuts.

You've got that backwards. They have trusted Free to do more and Davis hasn't been getting reps at LT. I'm bummed to hear that Free whiffed tonight, though.

I'm pretty sure Davis has been getting reps at LT unless all of those training camp reports are outright lies.

And how has Doug Free been trusted to do more? I'm pretty sure's never been on the field with the first team.

The last time Bigg got reps at LT was early in camp.

Also, Free has gotten first team reps.

I never suggested it didn't, and I didn't offer that up to defend Free's play... I was raggin' on McQuistan, who is on my crap list...

Sometimes players lose their footing... even Pro Bowl linemen get beat every once in a while... for the most part, Free has had a solid preseason... indeed, even in this game he was solid enough, except for that one egregiously bad play...

I'm guessing you feel the same way about Free as I do about McQuistan, but IMO you're being too hard on the guy... he has looked like a significantly improved player this preseason, and that one play doesn't change that...

It was a really crappy play, though...

He got some reps there early in camp, but I didn't read about him working at tackle later on... perhaps because the Boys started to feel better about Free...
