Because why spend a first on a backup, gosh!

Because in two years he will be your franchise QB for the next 12 years. Is that really so hard to grasp?

And by all accounts the guy will most likely play plenty of games in the next two years as Romo cant seem to stay healthy.

Does any of that make sense to you? Or do you think we are one CB or LB away from winning the SB with a healthy Romo playing all 16 games and 4 more in the playoffs?

So, no franchise QBs in the draft, you are positive of that. But sign one of two unreliable veterans who have already shown they can't or at the very least struggle to play at even a mediocre in this league and "develop" them.

I agree and the scary thing about Manziel is what he does off the field can have a major impact on the field. Romo has been ripped over the years over his baseball cap and now we have some who want a drunk party guy? You can't control injuries but you can control stupid yet Manziel struggles with stupid.

and I said I think Dallas needs to look to the future I want a QB at 4 I would take Goff or Lynch at that spot. I would not screw around hoping someone will be there in the 2nd. These top 2 guys represent the top QB in the draft I want Dallas to get one. Meantime as I said I think Romo does have some productive years left and that would only benefit guys like Goff and Lynch so that they are not thrown to the wolves day 1.

Well said. And why wouldnt the brass want the young guy to learn from one of the best in Romo for a few years? Makes all the sense in the world.

Past history tells us Jerry will be pro-active before the draft, to avoid being feeling he has to go a certain direction during the draft..........

A diversion. Correct. Any sane franchise would avoid the pair of them and draft for the future in most cases.

We have no backup QB, we have no young signal caller to groom, and Romo is on his last legs. We just finished a season where without Romo we could only win 1 game. How is the QB position not the main problem? How about two years from now? Will it be the main problem then? If your answer is probably, then its the main problem now. Because it takes a few years to develop a guy. And in two years will we be up this high at the time or will it take a year or two of disaster after Romo to get up here again. If the opportunity presents itself this year to get a great prospect we have to take it. At least that is my opinion.

We need a QB right now. I agree..

But what is the point if we are just going to put the guy in a position to fail and waste FA money and a premium draft pick?

That is why fixing this broken middle school offensive scheme is imo by far the top priority and QB is secondary.

As far as Roster moves, yes, QB is #1 for me.

What would Goff cost on a rookie deal to hold the clipboard Errr iPad for 3 or so years? Seems quite an investment to make on a guy

Qbs are going to get hit yes. But when it's what seems like a full out targeted late hit that isn't even called and the player isn't fined it scares me even more. Now players know they can hit him late without reprocutions. That's a scary thing

He speared Romo in the back well after the ball was thrown. It should have been 15 yards and a fine. In the playoffs the prior year, Clay Matthews swept the legs of Romo a good two seconds after Romo threw the ball. Again, no flag, no fine.

With teams knowing how utterly worthless our team is without Romo, they will be even more emboldened to take cheap shots and take him out by any means necessary.

What? You mean Romo can't play for another 4 to 5 years at a Pro Bowl level?

You mean TO doesn't have a body of a 17 year old and could play into his 50's at an all pro level ???

Someone needs to post that cheap shot again. there were two actually--one after a pick that was more of a de-cleating crackback block (maybe marginally legal) and the other by Moore that was brutally late and square in his back.
Would have hurt anyone, imo.

Yes. And keep CAP space available.

I think if we keep him for the next 2-3 years and PAY out his contract without any restructures we should be good. If we continue to restructure then we will be in cap hell.

It could be 1-2 years, no one knows right now. If they think Goff or Lynch is the right QB to take over for Romo then you can't try and figure out how long they'll be sitting for. People can predict 3-4 years or 1-2. Take the QB now and worry about how long they'll sit later.

I agree that Dallas needs to look to the future but in fairness in from 2011 to 2014 Romo has missed 2 games. Last season with the collar bone yes he missed most of the season but I think he still has some quality seasons left.

I think that you need to read Troy's piece again. Past history has no relevance on Tony's current physical situation (primarily back) which appears to be chronic and vulnerable.

Agreed. Look at the past two seasons and how he had to be physically managed to be able to play and play effectively on Sundays. Two Thanksgiving horror shows on a short week.

this is the problem. jerry keeps saying in every interview that expects romo to play 4-5 more years. romo believes it too. that means goff sits his entire rookie deal.

Yeah, I agree, but I'm looking at it from a management standpoint. If Jerry or Stephen thinks he can play another 3 or so years, do I want to spend that much money on someone who may or may not be good.

So you avoid drafting him based on an irrational pipe dream? I don't care how long Romo thinks he can play if I run this team.

Timing is not always going to align perfectly. Say he says he will play three more years, you wait until when, so the rookie takes over during the final year of their contract? That is a foolish way to approach preparing for the future. Worry about the contract stuff later. Get the talent, develop them and go from there. Even if Romo thinks he can play five more years, what is the assurance that is at a high level? Guess what, nothing guarantees that. That is hope talking.
