A. It was a designed play by Dallas because both gunners moved inside right before the snap, obviously trying to either get a block or force the punter to rush and get off a bad punt.
B. The Colts had a "standing audible" all season that if they got an uncovered gunner the punter was to throw the ball to him and this was the first opportunity they had to use it in an actual game.
Seemed like a dumb play by both teams. Dallas showed the block way too soon and allowed the punter time to audible, you have to jump inside right at the last second before the ball is snapped to get more rushing than blocking. Dumb move on the part of Indy for going for the fake from your own 19, in the first quarter, only down 1 TD. Even though they got the look they wanted, you have to think about something going wrong. What if the punter throws a bad ball? What if the gunner drops it? What if the ball is intercepted? If something goes wrong you hand the other team the ball at the 19 yard line already down 1 TD............at best you are now down 10, probably down 14 if you are playing a good offense.
I don't think either team is going to try this again in the playoffs...........Colts see what happens if you don't convert and Dallas sees that they almost gave up a TD if the gunner catches that in stride.
