As far as I'm concerned we have to keep both Mitchell and Pat.

Oscan out 4 and counting on Mo?? I would rather bite the bullet with these 2, than a vet.

Scandrick won't count against the 53 while out and they probably keep 5, so they have:

Carr
Claiborne

3 of these and 1 needs to play the slot:
Patmon - Terrific against Miami
Mitchell - Up and down.
Sterling Moore - Came back from injury to play against Miami and has NFL experience.
Webb - Had his best game as a Cowboys last week against the Ravens.

I think Mitchell is the only one that has not practiced at the slot position.

I keep Patmon, Mitchell, and Moore out of that group. Webb just doesn't seem to have the upside of Mitchell or Patmon and Moore provides some vet experience. What happened to the kid we traded for from New England (Green)? I haven't seen him make any sort of play yet.

It's a difficult decision. Webb has the best athleticism of the bunch. Mitchell has the least speed.

I only keep Moore if he is the #3 CB and slot CB for game 1. If Patmon beats him out for that, then I might just move on from him and keep the other guys. Webb will have to return from injury next week in order to have a shot, IMO.

The CB Green #28 looked OK in the few plays where I noticed him. He was bigger weight wise than all of the other guys in this group and was also the fastest in the forty.

MIAMI -- If a phone call last May was just a little different, Tyler Patmon would have been playing against the Dallas Cowboys on Saturday night as a member of the Miami Dolphins, not for them.

After going undrafted and unable to secure a rookie free-agent contract, Patmon had offers from the Cowboys and Dolphins to attend a rookie minicamp tryout. He chose the Cowboys’ offer and played well enough to earn a contract for training camp.

On Saturday, Patmon had two interceptions, returning one 9 yards for a touchdown, forced a fumble, deflected two passes and led the Cowboys with five tackles.

“I made a few plays,” Patmon said. “I left a couple out there, but I definitely made some plays.”

The Cowboys’ cuts start this week and the 53-man roster will be finalized by Saturday. Patmon is not thinking he has anything made.

Interesting. Thanks for the observations.

I go with Carr, Claiborne, Patmon, Moore, and then it's down to Webb vs Mitchell for the last spot.

Mitchell probably makes it through waivers. Patmon will not. The Dolphins are probably hoping we cut him so they can sign him to their 53.

At any rate I like what I've seen from all the DBs this preseason. It's turned into a solid bunch. My chief concerns lie with the DT situation, but hopefully Melton and Okoye are able to come in and hold those spots down beginning Week 1.

I really like Mitchell's potential. Only problem he is a PI waiting to happen. He grabs on the jersey way to much. Not sure if that is just a bad habit or something he has learned to do when someone beats him. I expected more from Webb and had high hopes he would be a solid player but now not so sure.

I agree it is between Mitchell and Webb for the last CB spot. At this point I'd probably go with Mitchell.

Carr, Scandrick, Claiborne, Moore, Patmon, Mitchell

He has to take Webb's spot. There is no question.

Webb hasn't be able to cover, has looked absolutely lost when needing to come up and tackle and can't stay healthy.

Patmon and Mitchell are both tailor made for the coverage this defense plays. They both know how to position themselves to watch the backfield in zone while still having the fluid hips to turn and run. I am not annointing them by any means, but the way Patmon played that first INT looked like patented Ronde Barber. Open hips, using the sideline as another defender and break on the ball. The second play was amazing, but clearly a little fluke. Mitchell's man coverage is a little better but they both excell in cover-2 zones and both are very willing tacklers.

The field awareness he showed on the 2nd INT is unlike anything I've seen from a Dallas DB since a young Roy or Darren Woodson. Who knows, maybe he guessed and got lucky. Still a heckuva play.

Needs to do it versus other teams ones.

This. Minter looked pretty poor last night after a big week last week.

And the pick 6 was just due to Moore losing focus. He bobbled the snap and still tried to force the timing play and he jumped it. Good instincts and timing but let's hold off on saying how great this kid is. That was all against 2nd and 3rds.

I was more impressed on his first INT. He played that perfectly. The INT for the TD was a great play, but he got help from Moore mishandling the snap and the pressure from the outside.

Think this dude deserve a serious look next week against Denver. We need playmakers and he showed tonight he can be just that.

The guy quite possibly had his "Career Game" last night. Keep him around for a while in case it wasn't just dumb luck lol

Pretty good call by Stephen Jones in pre game.
He specifically said to look out for Patmon.

I think he's a solid player and likely does make the roster, but I think he might be getting a little too much love for his performance against Miami. He took advantage of his opportunities, but got some really bad decisions by Tanneyhill to work with. If Tony had thrown either of those passes, he would be ripped apart on here ... and rightly so. You can't force that first throw into traffic and throw it poorly to boot, and the second throw is completely about timing; once the snap was bobbled, you've got to throw that away. Good awareness by Patmon, but terrible execution by Tanneyhill.

Pieces with parts worn out, don't work as a primary gear...Moore. It takes time to program for a cut and as well as tremendous cutting ability to replace a gear, when making one's own.

But this Green, hits character for the new style of 'preferred' cornerback. That he has speed is a big plus. Since he was waived, this project needs tweeking, drying, and further tweeking to get a rock solid gear.

So when players play bad, we can jump on them and talk about it right away...but when a player plays good, we have to continue and see if he can do it often.

Sigh...
