Tyron Smith is a bargain

Yes he is. That’s why I’m
Not ready to give up on him yet.
But a good number of CZers have calling for trading him since he went on IR.
TBH, Smith hasn't had a 16 game season since 2015 - but it was three games a year missed for 2016 -19.(13 out of 16= 81% availability)
Hopefully the surgery, rehab + plus the lack of the 2020 grind will provide a rejuvenalation of sorts. May it lead to a couple more all-pro production seasons to complete a great Cowboys career.

Couldn’t agree more. Even if you get 13 games out of him, it’s a steal

True.

Fans here act like players on other teams never get injured.
Trent Williams games played:
2016:12
2017:10
2018:13
2019:14

Not since 2013 as Williams played all 16 games.

The Smith contract was good business by the Cowboys. He has seemed happy enough with it. Jay Ratlif signed a similar contract back in the day and he was not..

theres "injured" then theres, GONE FOR THE YEAR...like 2020.

its common knowledge man...

Then it should be no problem to provide some sort of link, blurb, clipping, tweet, or something right? Not that I doubt you Ray, I'd just like to see the quote from directly from Tyron Smith that says he's contemplating retirement. Common knowledge isn't the same thing public forum opinion.

then how many did he miss in 2020? Add them up.
He missed 14 games in 2020. He missed 12 games from 2016-2019. So that's 26 missed games. He's played in 54. You insisting that he has missed more than he's played is a really bad take.

tell ya what. Watch the dallascowboys.com shows..they talk about it all the time. Just yesterday Bucky Brooks, Broaddus, Kyle Yeaoman did, along with Helman. Helman is a fan of keeping him and the others arent. Like I said, this is common knowledge.

Trent Williams has played in 134 of 160 possible games. Tyron Smith has played in 133 of 160 possible games.

I wouldn't wager against a Cowboys health, but if you could bet which one would play more games over the next 2 years, no one outside of the Smith or Jones families would bet on Tyron.

be careful..you might get your wish and we hang onto him a year too long and get nothing for him. SOMETIMES its ok to get rid of a guy.

OT Trent Williams is going to sign a 6 year deal with SF worth about $23 million per year. Williams will be 33 on his next birthday and has had issues with health that have prevented him from playing.

Tyron's deal was for a bit more than $12 million per year. Tyron turned 30 just over 3 months ago. .
Exactly

bargain? What is Dallas getting for their investment since 2016? How many games played in versus how many missed? Then come back and tell us how this is a bargain. Not tryin to be disrespectful. Just at my whit's end on the Tyron thing. SOMEONE once said, the best trait of all is availability.

I could give you a *very* long list of NFL starting tackles that have missed significant games, including guys who've missed whole seasons or the majority of seasons.

In his career Smith has played 133/160 games. If you exclude this last season Smith's "Availability" ranking is better than other recent all-pros like Trent Williams, Jason Peters, Taylor Lewan, Russell Okung, Eric Fisher.

-ProBowler Russell OKung played only 6 games in '19 and 7 games in '20.
-ProBowler Eric Fisher missed half of 2019.
-ProBowler Jason Peters missed ALL of 2012, and half of two other seasons.

It's hard not to cheer for a guy who is a total pro, never hear him moan, absolute beast and possibly the best LT is the league......when healthy.

I'd love to know how many games he suited up injured when "lesser" men would have said, no. There's a decent chance he will grow old with a broken down body because he put everything on the line for the Cowboys. I will have nothing but respect for him doing that.

I also find it hard to argue against a man who has arms bigger than my legs!

The injury stuff is a concern though and the odds are not good he will see the field for a full season. I know 13 games are being mentioned on this thread as "ok" and it probably is based on his salary and production but what is "acceptable" below 13? What if that number becomes 10? I also worry that plan B fails badly and even if he does miss "only" 3 games, then are those 3 Ls? (the Atlanta game still makes me shudder). Sounds strange to say this but he is so valuable to us that when he goes down, the impact is huge and the chance of a loss increases significantly, that's hard to recover from.

My fingers are well and truly crossed here as I want this guy to be healthy, want him ending up in the HOF but right now, it's heart v head I feel.

Not thinking Smith's contract is a great bargain must be the same mentality our front office takes into free agency. If they're not elite at their position, play every game without question, and sign for half their worth then we don't want them. Smith is an absolute stud, and contrary to popular belief has been extremely durable prior to last year. Might be one of the best contracts in the league.

What's funny is the people that are being overdramatic about his health are going to be the first people to storm in here when he makes the pro bowl this season and rant about how "we have the best surgeons in the business of course it was a success" and "He's a Hall of Fame player of course he came back from adversity"

Admittedly it's close but yeah I take Tyron simply because he's 2 years younger and because of his surgically repaired neck. It's been a nagging injury that has bothered him for years and now it's fixed. That doesn't mean another part of his body might not break down. If anything Trent Williams and the 49ers prove the point many of us have been trying to make. The 49ers looked at the position and player as so critical they made a 33 year old often injured tackle the highest paid offensive lineman in the league and even at 33 signed him to a 6 year contract worth 23 million a year. Meanwhile we have a 30 year old offensive lineman who's only missed 1 more game than Williams, made 1 more Pro Bowl than Williams, and 2 first team All Pro that Williams has not, only making 12 million a year. I'd say it's crazy to think about getting rid of a guy like this but it's a waste of breath because Dallas isn't going to get rid of him and no team in the NFL would.
