Tyron Smith is a bargain

Are we sure he's hurt or are these just games where he's resting?

If its a playoff game is healthy enough to play? Not speaking on last season but the 13 game seasons.......I never got the impression he was that hurt to not play.

That's an excellent point. It is possible he missed a couple of meaningless games at the end of the season where he could have played if they needed him. Makes a stronger point about Tyron, which I think is, he is worth the risk at $12.3 million a year even with his recent history of missing games.

Yep that's what I'm getting at. If he's giving me 13 games a year.....I can live with the salary.

Might it be Tyron's last year if he can't play any more than he has in the last few seasons?

He might consider retiring; otherwise the team could possibly do so for him. We shall see.
I certainly wouldn't dismiss either scenario as something totally unlikely to happen. :omg:

Tyrone will play late into his 30's at a high level. The guy is a beast.

I don't know about late 30's, but i'll be happy if he's there another five years. He is 30 going on 36 though, lots of miles on that odometer.

Tyron Smith's been needing that neck surgery he had last year for a long while. I'm hoping its success makes him more reliable for several more seasons. He's going to have back problems at the late part of each season. If we can continue to get 13 games out of him every year, he is indeed a bargain.

Agree but if he can’t stay healthy then the bargain becomes a rip off.

We need our football players to play football.

Also, if he retired tomorrow would anyone be surprised?

If he misses 3 games but is available and healthy at the end of the year for possible postseason play, he's still a deal.

And I would be surprised if he retired tomorrow. It would some crushing medical reveal.

His body has wayyyyy more mileage than the typical 30 year old, though; even by NFL OT standards.
I'm less worried about mileage on olinemen. They're the biggest guys on the field. And the OTs go against smaller guys. Nobody is pounding Tyron into the dirt.
A good OT can last. More worried about his injury mileage, but it looked to me like he turned the corner on his back health in 2019.

OT Trent Williams is going to sign a 6 year deal with SF worth about $23 million per year. Williams will be 33 on his next birthday and has had issues with health that have prevented him from playing.

Tyron's deal was for a bit more than $12 million per year. Tyron turned 30 just over 3 months ago. .

So what does that come to about 3 million per game played?

Not really. Half the games he plays he is either injured, rusty, or both. Its only a bargain if he plays all 16 games and plays well.

I agree, but I’m still in favor of drafting at OT at 10. He can be the swing tackle for Smith and Collins, one of them (probably both) won’t make it 16 games. Protect Dak, Protect the investment. Also, give Zeke a chance to bounce back. A FS can had in the 2nd, and a DT in the 3rd.

Wow, comparison shopping!
Gimme something along the lines of Zeke vs. Calvin Cook!

what? NO. Put down the brew.
You said the days of him playing 13 games was long past, asked when was the last time he played that many I answered instead of saying you were wrong you throw a straw man at me, it’s ok man like I said I don’t argue stupidity.
