Thinking outside the "Box" or the "NFL" for instance, is always a good start. One part of getting ahead of the proverbial "curve" .

GRAPEVINE — Tyrone Crawford suffered a season-ending torn left Achilles tendon on the first day of training camp practice in July.

The Dallas Cowboys defensive lineman says the injury is completely healed and he hasn’t experienced any setbacks, however, he’s not as far along as he would like to be.

“It’s still sore, but that’s getting used to being at practice and going up against an offensive lineman,” Crawford said Tuesday during the team’s annual golf tournament. “[It’s] definitely weaker than I expected it would be at this point, and sometimes I try to put my foot down and it doesn’t hold as well as I want it to.”

Crawford assured that he would not open camp on the physically unable to perform list

Billion dollar stadium, dollar store training staff

- I am not just talking about Crawford as an Achilles is gonna need time to heal, but their answer to turning over every stone to reduce injuries? ballet bars....

It just shows you how clueless they are. I met Bradie James recently in my neighborhood and he said exactly what I thought.. "Nothing is going to change until those in charge of the team are gone".

Well, hopefully he doesn't try to rush anything (even if it's been a while). An Achilles tear is considered career threatening for a reason.

Right.

There will be as many as 50% of these guys who will admit later on that they could play, but not at the previous level.

He isn't even a year back. It's been just a little over 10 months since surgery. He just mentioned its a bit sore and not as strong as he'd like it yet, but there is little concern for re injury.

Can y'all chill with the worry?

Is this the same Bradie James that dislikes the Cowboys so much that he retired with us back around draft time?... Seems to be speaking out of 2 mouths if that's the case.

In my past, I had to endure an injury to my achilles about 20 years ago, although mine was completely severed as opposed to Crawford's, which was a tear to that same tendon. I'm not surprised in the least that it's sore. He can realistically expect it to continue to be sore for at least a year and possibly even more. In my case, it was more like two years but again, mine was completely severed as opposed to simply being torn. When an achilles is severed, the offending tendon is rejoined with the torn part being rejoined by overlapping it and stitching the two parts back together. Crawford's healing is somewhat simpler and quicker, although I have little doubt the pain and soreness will be bothersome well into the regular season and possibly longer. Here's hoping he'll recover quicker than I did. I would imagine a year and some change may be the minimum time required to alleviate the soreness, however. Hang in there, Tyrone!

I wonder if people look across the NFL at injuries or think the Cowboys are the only team that deals with them. Didn't the Broncos lose a pro bowl left tackle their star pass rusher and they could barely get Champ to walk yet alone rush much of the year. And they are lauded as a greatly run organization.

Giants were devastated by injuries.

Seahawks paid a Kings random for Percy and could barely get him on the field.

I could go on.

Were we complaining about the medical staff when Ware played a decade without missing a game? Or when Witten came back unexpectedly from a spleen? The job the staff has done around getting Romo on the field banged up?

Injuries happen. The Cowboys are not special in this regard.

Yep...remember we have had Church have an Achilles tear and come back better than before. Romo has been able to play despite serious injuries. Bryant hasn't missed games despite suffering injuries that would keep a lot of guys out. It's not like every guy we have has these problems.

lol. Me thinks you may be asking for a WEE bit too much there, my friend. It is best to post angst now and be on record than allow events to unfold naturally.

Yes, that is the same Bradie James. Just because he retired a Cowboy doesn't mean he has to agree with how they ran the team. He just gave his opinion on why they have been bad for so long and he is right. I think the front office sucks majorly too.. but doesn't change the fact that I love the team.

Agreed.

That is why its empty to me to use injuries as an excuse for missing the playoffs, persistent mediocrity, etc.

As to the article: Greg Ellis came back from his Achilles injury to become the comeback player of the year (and went to the pro bowl) in 2007, and he did that at the tender age of 32.

I expect Crawford will be fine.

Crawford's been hanging around the newly installed Ballerina bars too much, this aint nothing duct tape wouldn't fix.

On a serious note - Hopefully he's ready to go for our season opener, because our defense will need all the help we can get.

Not much a training staff is going to do about the strength of an injured tendon.

I know it is different sports but look at the Phoenix Suns. They save careers that many have considered over due to injury, and they have a nice track record of keeping players healthy to prolong careers. It's not just Tyrone, we are constantly killed by injuries.

As it says in the article, it usually takes a full year for a good recovery.

Kind of helps when people read the entire article but as we see they only read the one part and going into hyperbole. I can see you read it. lol

and yet Church came back last year from the same injury and played all 16 games. Crawford is still in the rehab stage fact he is out there during OTA is very encouraging and with camp still a little ways off it appears he is on schedule.
