Undrafted? No Problem! Undrafted Players Are Among Best in Cowboys’ History

A total of 256 college prospects were selected in the 2017 NFL Draft…and then the real feeding frenzy began! As soon as the 7th round ended on Saturday evening, like sharks on chum, NFL teams quickly began signing undrafted rookie free agents.

Undrafted players are free to sign with any team. Current Cowboys that went undrafted include the second most accurate kicker in NFL history (Dan Bailey) as well as the slot receiver who led the 2016 squad in receptions (Cole Beasley).

Looking at Cowboys rosters of the past, some of the greatest players in team history started their careers as rookie free agents. Two of them are members of the Cowboys’ Ring of Honor.

Also consider that any player in history drafted below the 7th round would also be tje equivalent of a free agent in today's NFL.

I'll put it this way, any player drafted beyond the 256th pick back then would be undrafted free agent today.

They include:

G Herbert Scott, 3 time Pro Bowl, 2 time All Pro

TE Jean Fugett, 1 time Pro Bowl

DE Larry Cole, 11 year starter, 428th overall pick

CB Larry Brown, SB MVP

DT Chad Hennings

CB Dennis Thurman

CB Mark Washington

Of Thurman's Thieves, I'm thinking that secondary were all lower round pics. Didn't they lead the league in interceptions as well?

This is why is cracks me up when certain people on this forum refuse to acknowledge UDFAs as part of a draft class when evaluating that class.
