Basically if this guy has a decent camp and shows up in the preseason games, along with making plays on special teams, he is RB #3 behind Zeke and McFadden. Book it. Morris is toast.
Morris was disappointing last year. I could easily see the Cowboys moving on with a cheaper back like Thomas. It would not be a shock to see Morris cut in August at all.

It sounds strange on the surface, but Jahad Thomas genuinely wanted to come here.

That seems a bit puzzling when you consider the situation in the Dallas Cowboys’ running backs room. Ezekiel Elliott is the reigning NFL rushing champion – a first-round draft pick, a face of the franchise and a key component of the offense.

Elliott isn’t likely to go anywhere any time soon. But with Lance Dunbar leaving the team in free agency, and with both Darren McFadden and Alfred Morris under contract for just one more year, Thomas saw the Cowboys as an opportunity.

“The roster – this is one of the best fits,” he said. “I know, with losing Dunbar to the Rams, I had an opportunity to come in and fill that role as someone with his style of play.”

Should have kept Jackson last year time to get younger at the depth department at this position. Save money in the process.

Ok, I've always liked this player. It makes me wonder why he does so well but teams don't keep him.

In Pittsburgh, he wore out his welcome quick after getting caught with pot alongside Bell. New England has been keeping him on a short leash with short term contracts.

He will end up staying there unless another team plays New England's bluff with the "June 1st" tender they applied to him, which means if a team signs him the Patriots get a compensatory pick and the team that signs him loses one. Yet another piece of evidence they are the smartest team in the league.

He'll sign with someone. Problem is, the Pats shrewdly slapped a second round tender on him right before the comp pick time period ended. He was headed to the Giants was the word.

Works out for us, for now. Don't wanna see him on the Giants :)
It is not exactly a "2nd round" tender. They offered him 110 percent of his salary, so they get a comp pick if he goes somewhere else. If he does not sign with anyone before July 22, the Patriots keep his rights.

I understand, but it's called a "second round" tender :)
All pointless now that the Eagles signed him. Good thing because I believe it might negate a late round comp pick they would have got otherwise.

Awesome! Hadn't heard this. Did this happen this morning? I didn't want him going to the Giants.
Yes, just happened. They outbid the Cardinals of all teams I guess. The Giants bowed out a while back.

Morris is a grinder that probably would have been better with more carries. He would have more value to some other teams or he would have had more value the Cowboys in some previous years.

His blocking, receiving and special teams limitations make it really difficult for the Cowboys to keep him, IMO. On the other hand, McFadden injury history might make it easier for them to justify keeping Morris.

It's easier to live with DMC's injury history than Morris' limitations.

Keep DMC and the more rounded back in Thomas.

It depends on what Thomas show in the preseason. As of right now, other teams could have signed Thomas if they really wanted him.

That's his best shot. If he can contribute on st's and show something as a RB he could force Morris out. Don't see 4 db's making the roster

I think that's the way things will ultimately shake out. If Thomas can help in the return game on special teams, he can justify being active and on the roster. If Morris can't, he can't.
